Feeler: Coupe Paint Job *pics*
Alright so ever since I've gotten my car the thought of a paint job has been a bug in the back of my head. I've never really seen a color that I really liked and that would go well with future mods that I have in mind. At first I was thinking maybe just black, then it went to a candy apple red, and then even white for awhile. Then I just gave up, and was content with the desert silver look. But I was looking around some Audi forums and I saw this color that I think i'm falling in love with. It's called schiefer metallic, and I think it looks sooo good, and would look amazing on my coupe with the mods I have planned. Below are a couple of pics...
Can't you just picture this color with 05' tails, 1.5in drop, black rims with a polished lip, 05 grill...on a coupe?? I think it would look HOT!!

Well this guy in particular JUST had it painted, and I think he said it had only been out for about 2 days and from what I hear your not supposed to wax it for the 1st 90days. So I'm thinking it won't look too flat/dull, but after a wax it should look realllly good.
Nothings wrong the desert silver, but everytime I look at it...it just keeps reminding me of a grandma...

i say: go for the schiefer metallic paint job !!!
while Desert Silver is a nice color.... what will set your Coupe apart from everyone else's will be the color ! A mod (technically) is something aftermarket that makes your car different than everyone else.
For example, 2005+ taillights, is no longer a mod, because EVERYONE has them ! yawn, boring...

If you have a Desert Silver coupe I think that you should work around that. It is a rare color, especially on the coupes. It can be an awesome color and it will really pop with some good tint. I have a desert silver sedan and love it as it is not seen as much.
What you want to do would look great, but will cost quite a bit to be done right.

hmm...
Well that was the first mod I did was tint it. I've got 20% all around and you're right it did make a world of difference. It looks 100 times better with tint.
But other than the tint, the only thing I can come up with that would impact the appearance tremedously would be to get a drop and some wheels, which is what I'm working on for my most recent mod. at which point I would be completely happy with the desert silver, but I still think I'd like this color more at the end of the day.

How much do you think it would cost to grind it all down, prime it and paint it?
I asked for a price quote from a local certified MB paint and body shop, but I stil haven't heard from them. I'm taking a rough guess that it would probably be around 1800 to 2200?

Oh I def. know it's a must for quality work on a paint job, but 3k+ is a little steep. Wouldn't you think a certified MB paint and body shop would do quality work?

Are you talking getting the door jams/trunk jams/etc painted to match too? Let me know if you can find a quality outfit to do it for less than $2K. And for that, we're talking prepping the existing paint to be painted over. If you want them to strip the paint and then prep, you can probaby expect to double that. Just my somewhat educated guess .....

Looks like it's shaping up to be a mix of yehs and nehs
I'm going to get a price quote from a few shops around town, and if it's not to much then i'll start to budget it.
Let me know what you think!!

I could've sworn there's a benz color similar to that. If you had a metallic mix of that made, you'd have something close to that color.

Done RIGHT you will be 5k+, and right is door jambs and everything. There will be a ton of prep work to go between these two color extremes. IMO you should leave it be. Get some euro impact strips to ditch the butt-*** ugly yellow side markers and that will make a huge improvement. If you want coupe uniqeness you already have it in desert silver, work with it here and there on esthetics and you will have it.
