how to snap-in driver side mirror casing?

how to snap-in driver side mirror casing?
Newbie and not too mechanical! How in the world do I snap in the side mirror casing to the body of the car on my '02 C240. There are two tabs on the mirror assembly that slide into the far end of the shell, but then I can't get the case to cover the hinge pin part towards the front. There must be some secret!
