Smile good job

Hey eason, nice intake man, looks easy and clean.
But it looks a bit scary where the connection between your plastic pipe and the supercharger...they all just ZIP> togeter

I will post my intake pictures tomorrow

One question, would the steel can get rusty in the future??
I am using a plastic water bottle for about two months, it is still in good shape.

kw230:
The pipe I use it not a plastic pipe. The pipe is same material people use in the GT race cars where they use it to direct the cold air to the brake rotor. The material is very durable and heat resistant, it cost appox $5.8US/foot. Actually the connection between the pipe and the superchager is very tight, the zip tie is just a backup incase anything the hose pops out. The superchage inlet with the plastic flange is 2.5" wide, the outside diameter of the hose is appox 2.65". I have to really push and squezz the plastic flange when I putting in the hose, once I got everything in place, everything just sits tight nicely.

The can I use on top of the bov is a tin can (tin food can), I don't thing it will rust at all, since there is no water on it. I used the plastic bottle (Pepis 500ml bottle) for a week, but the heat from the engine and the BOV changed the shape of teh plastic bottle.

I tried running my car up my street with no airbox or filter open ended, and it made NO difference in sound.

Weird, on my clk320 there was a HUGE increase in noise, and it sounded great.

Any ideas how to make this thing louder. Im back to teh stock box for now.

X15jq:
If you want sound, take off the second part of the intake box, then you will hear some nice, loud supercharge whining.

hokusbenz:
Every parts you buy have gone thru numberous science experiences before the product is finallize. This is only my second intake experience so far... lol

Kw230:
Check your PM, as far as performance, I think the throttle response is better, and I still looking for some ways to get some colder air into the space under the head light housing.

Buellwinkle was telling me about making a sort of scoop. That would scavenge and divert the air towards your cone filter

How is it that you remove the secondary part of the airbox?

Is it hard?

It should come off with that bolt on the far end. Anyhow, I checked the price on the SLK version of that part and it's $109. I'll either check the scrap yards or wholesale department at Hoehn Motors.

Wow crazy mb price for that lil piece.

I removed the 2 rear bolts on the rear of the airbox thing, and i cant get it to come off.

Hmm not sure if there is another bolt in front by where the rubber hose clamps to.

There are 4 more screws holding between the BOV and the intake box. After you remove the 2 in the rear, then u unscrew the hose clamp that's on the BOV. Disconnect the wire in the BOV and you should able to get the whole air box with the BOV off. Then, you turn the whole thing upside down you should about to see the 4 screws holding the BOV and the air box. Unscrew the 4 screws, take off the BOV and put back the BOV to the hose clamp. Lastly you reconnect the wire to the BOV. I hope this can help you.

This is a good idea, but it is a bit dangous to do this in Vancouver/Richmond, I think it is better to have some 1/4 mile time to compare. My best run so far is 14.8, with a slippery clutch.

A few questions for kw230...

I'm assuming that was a fully custom job? If you can post some diagrams/instructions on building, I'd really like to see how it was put together.

I noticed you sacrificed the passenger-side foglight to get the airflow to the filter, is there any other options to get the air to the filter other than removing the light? Did you also have to sacrifice the driver-side foglight to get the other intake pipe?

Finally, how's the sound? I know sound is just a by-product of getting a new intake, but does it add a deeper/higher-pitched sound to the engine?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is a completely cumtom job...the flange which connect the intake pipe and the supercharger is custom machine by my friend from a piece of solid alumium, and welded with the pipe together by a pro shop. Those alumium pipes are ordered from www.Burnstainless.com, then cut to the correct angle.

It is not necessary to remove the fog light, if using a smaller air filter, the HKS large filter is too big...
It was not my idea to remove the fog light, it drops by itself in the middle of an autoX event....
