Chek Out My Intake!

Chek Out My Intake!
Hehe, Ive seen Eason's intakes. Thought I would try one of my own
I really noticed a better pull from 4400 to redline..
Keep in mind my car only has 155 miles LOL
So i still have some breaking in to do.
It is lined up perfectly with the exterior air duct, so I should be getting some good air in there.
What do u all think?

Heres a pic of the air duct, the cone is pretty lined up
Hopefully rain wont get in there. Am i hurting my car having it on there SO soon. Should i finish breaking it in with the stock box?

Very nice! ... how big is the pipe diameter??, what brand and size is your filter? .. Can you hear the intake noise like those Trust or HKS air filters??

Two issues, it's in a very hot part of the car right above the radiator fan with absolutely no heat shield (actually because more air can flow through the radiator instead of your intake opening, it will most likely not get airflow from the outside), it will get wet when driving in the rain. But you are on the right track, it looks great.
The ideal spot that I found is under the passenger headlight. To do that you'll need the plastic part that you attached your new intake to open on the left instead of the right. The similar SLK part does that, then run your new intake down from there.

3 " Diameter,
My friend gave me his intake off his 99 Honda Civic EX. Modified it a bit and its a great fit. I just hope it doesnt hit the belts RIGHT behind it in case it fall off.
The reason i would think it would fall off is cuz the flange it connects to, where that yellow connector is, it is oval shaped.
So im concerned it will work its way loose.

thanks for the input Buellwinkle.
By the passenger headlight, how can we get fresh outside air in?
Its COLD in NJ , like 49 degrees. I tested it an hour ago at 10 PM.
I warmed it up, noticed a LITTLE uneven in the idleing, but that cleared up.
When i took it out it felt great, but thast probably because its not really hot.
Should i even bother working with the intake up front? Would a heat shield help if its gettin that hot from the radiator?
And lastly, for the slk part, im really interested, but do you know the part number and the cost of this part.
Thanks!!

I'm usually at the dealer every Saturday morning for a car wash so I'll check then. If you don't have a braket holding it up it will fall off. The area by the headlight, deep in that area you can see the plastic pan underneath the engine, there is currently a hole there, about 2" diameter. That would be a great place to make the hole a little larger and put a small scoop. The area actually will act as an airbox and because heat rises it won't get much engine heat. Even so you can have a plate between the filter and tubing to creat a small shield but it's not likely necessary.

Really nice setup X15jq. But one thing to keep you in mind, water will land on your filter directly if it is raining. That's why I didn't do it like yours in the first place.

Mobil One Sticker
Mine has it...........As you know Mobil 1 and Mercedes have a long standing relationship.
My dealer........Fletcher Jones, Newport Beach does use it although there seems to be some confusion as to what blend they use. One mechanic told me 15/50 the other said he didn't know.
Enjoy the ride...

Yea it DEFINATELy was a HAI.
I tested it when it was cold ,it was great.
When its hot different story.
Very sluggish response on the gas pedal. Sorta bogged a little.
I put the stock setup back on, took 5 minutes and im pleased for now..
Will have to go with Buellwinkles' advice. We are gunna try the air chute that is pointed left like the SLK, so a filter can go down by the headlight. I have lots of intake piping here in 3" so all i really need is the peice to get this goin.
Will keep you updated.

Have you guys consider using the Carbon Dynamic Airbox?? It actually shield the filter with carbon fiber. This thing is produced by BMC air filter, so check the website up

Finally, I did a Cold Air Intake, the filter is located at the open space under the right side head light. The throttle is more responsive, not much delay as my last setup. The finsih is very clean as well. I took the sode bottle off the BOV, since it was very hot, the bottle was damaged very badly. Now I replaced with a Alum Can (it was a peach fruit can), the BOV sound is ever more clear and loud. I will post some pictures later tonight.
