Tint questions in Costa Mesa/OC, CA area

I am in Costa Mesa area, looking for a good tint shop. Visited Campbell Tinting in Huntington Beach this afternoon, nice place pretty pricey on their high end stuff, about $250 for a thicker grade regular smoked film. I can't decide whether to go with 20% or 35%, I've always had 35% film but feel that it's not enough for the So Cal sunlight. 20% looks and feels right, but has anyone got in trouble with the cops here in OC with their 20% tints?
I have a light gray interior so i know 20% will look lighter than a black interior. Here are my questions:

1) how much you paid here in So Cal for a tint job, and what brand?
2) which shop?
3) have you gotten any problem with your 20% with the cops?

I was going to use SunTek HP50 blue, but it's only a 50% film so won't really block any sun for me here in So Cal. Any feedback is welcomed!

I'm in Hot Australia and have 20% tint all round, and although its illegall, its not really that dark, and doesnt do the best job of blocking the heat. I'll try and post a pic to show but I'm not really happy with the tint job so I'm getting all the side windows tint removed and retinted 5% and 5% on the back window over the 20%. Even if I get hastled by the cops, its still going to be worth it!
Good luck with your windows and make sure they pull the door trims off to add felt lining, also check they dont cut into your window frame rubbers when cutting your tint.

ALSO, if you opt for 20% and your still paranoid about the law, leave the sunroof covor open, it brings heaps more light into the front windows and makes them look heaps lighter from the outside.

I live in Memphis,Tn and my tint is 15% and 35% on the front windsheld. It still doesnt keep all the heat out and its been in the triple digits for almost 2 weeks now. Oh and they used Lummar (sp?) tint which cost $280. The same shop i used also had Ceremic tint which is suppose to be better, if i were to have gotten that it would have cost $380.

Tint job and Cops in OC

just got my windows tinted 20% all around. I had 35% before, wow this is a big change. I am trying to get used to it at night, i think it's a bit of dark or may be I just haven't got used to it yet. During the bright daytime it's perfect, plenty of privacy and shade.

Has anyone with 20% tint run into any problems with the cops in OC at all??
I wonder how much a ticket for illegal tint job might cost.

$65 isnt that bad... if you know a cop to sign you off. if not, then surely a PITA

I have 65% light coming through. the lightest the shop had and its a perfect balance of tint/privacy and not getting my @ss picked off. CA is a real hard-@ss about tinted windows, esp around the meto areas

Make sure they understand how to do MB's and are doing something to mitigate the scratch issue like moleskin or the tint will start to look scratched up in weeks. If they don't know what you are talking about, say adios dude and find another tinter. I used a place that worked out well in Placentia by the 91 and Tustin Ave but that's nowhere near Costa Mesa. Good luck.

Get Huber optik tint. People swear by it and how it repels the heat (most importantly). I've been debating on getting tint for so long, but just can't get over loosing the blue tint look at night. If there was 75% huber optik, I'd get it in a heartbeat. I've had tinted windows in the past, but because of my OEM blue windows...it's hard to imagine film on top of that.

i got a tint ticket in LA and it was a 10 dollar fixit charge to get it approved after taking it off. My friend got the same ticket in traffic in santa ana and i believe it was the same thing. not sure about the percentages tho.

Usually the ticket cost is not bad, but the removal of the tint to clear the ticket is PITA.

I have 15% in the back, it's very hard to see out at night, the little plastic clear strip at the bottom helps a little when backing up, but usually I have to roll the windows down to see the mirrors for sheeite, and thats with 35% in the front, also illegal.

Dude, is that your kid? 5% tint all around?
Thats just stupid.

It's not gonna go over well when you get in an accident some night
and the words " I didn't see ____(him/her)" .

Thats 95% light blocked, +
the tint already in the window, leaves you about 1-3% visibility.
Just plain dumb, especially if you love your kid.
Sorry, but I think thats hella irresponsible.
5% is limo tint, and was never intended to be in the drivers area.

To answer the original question, Automall tint in Fremont is awesome in the bay area....doesn't help you find a place in the southland though.

Excellent Tint Service in OC!!

Just got my C230 tinted at 20% by www.klotztinting.com

Spencer does an amazing job and he comes to you to do the job on site, he is respectful, call and arrives on time, easy to talk to!!! Looking at his work he is one of the best at what he does. Tint is applied flawlessly! If you are busy and can't make it to the tint shop, try Spencer, his business is very professional. He uses Suntek and Greystone both are warranted.
