Lower ISO = slower shutter speed = higher quality pics?

Dude, I know you took more pics than that on Rodeo, didn't you?

Well ISO setting and shutter speed have a relationship, but it's not really direct. If you lower the ISO, it's assuming you want to slow the shutter speed down to take in light from an available source. You can lower the ISO to 100 (best) and decrease shutter speed to 1/8000.. but you'll get complete black pictures. It's a balance.

If I want to shoot these pics at night, I want to use the lowest possible ISO setting with the longest shutter delay for the wanted exposure (these cameras will give you hints if you're under/overexposed)... or shorten up the shutter delay (if you're on foot) but turn up the ISO rating (but higher ISO ratings get noisier/granier). It's up to you on what you want to sacrifice as far as quality. Night shoots require a tripod or completely frozen hands.

I only asked because I usually keep my p&s ISO on "auto" setting but noticed there's a "high ISO" setting as well and didn't know what that meant.

Keeping the P&S on auto iso will probably get you the best pictures day and night - the high ISO could be reserved for night-time pics (probably their intention). No manual modes, right?

Don't think so. There's some presets for different exposure/lighting, but that's about it. It's a middle of the road Canon.

aahhha...I see what you are saying. the two pics above was taken free-hand tho. probably should've used a tripod and lower ISO. great tip. gotta keep trying.

My camera would've been bangin' too if the shutter delay was any longer. Tripod vs. traffic FTL.
