COMAND
CD-text does not equal CD-naming.
CD-Text is encoded on the disk so that you don't have to type it in.
Please test this someone that has Comand if at all possible - make an audio CD with Roxio EZ CD - (settings: disk at once, text)

seems like alot of countries COMAND is so much more. Canada and UK seem really high priced. many of those who got it are still very pleased with it even though it is expensive.

I have my eyes set on alpine or pioneer bouth I can just enter the bussiness phone # with out typeing the address they can pull the address from data base.. I think I am going to go with pioneer since it also have voice control on it =)

You will not be satisfied with the current verision of COMMAND. It is very old technology. Look around and you will notice that most of the competition is offering DVD based systems. The new DVD COMMAND is launching in the E class with the other classes to follow. I would guess that first quarter 2003 will see it rolled out to other models. MB wants to unload their inventory of current units. Don't be a sucker just because you want the hole on your dash plugged.

thats a cool setup! i heard though that the dvd based COMAND could be installed in the car though as a direct replacement. is this true. if so does the car have to come with COMAND in the first place, or can it be retrofitted even if the car came with the stock radio?
Very nice Kman.
I agree that the current COMAND is outdated.
The system in my dad's Lexus is nicer. Color with touch screen and autoscroling of the map.
The MB system reminds me of military hardware. Very simple yet efficient in doing the job it was designed to do without much extra bells and whistles.

I have COMAND in my 2002 C320 and find it very useful, both for long-distance driving and in unfamiliar parts of my home town. I would get it. When I ordered the car, I thought it would be a neat toy, but after using it for eleven months, it has become an indispensable feature. Yes, it uses mulitple CD-ROMS instead of a single DVD, but that is not much of a disadvantage. On long distance trips, I just switch disks.

I haven't regreted purchasing it at all.
See if you can get your dealer to throw in the whole CD collection too.
As far as it being on DVD or several CDs, come on. That doesn't mean much unless you are flying a fighter jet.
Your gonna stop and **** more times than you'll have to change CDs between regions ;-)

How do you put in your final destination if you are in one area and are going to another that requires switching disks.

Yeah, I personally don't know WHY a company like MB can't afford to offer a DVD-based navigation system. Look at the Japanese cars like the Acura TL. My cousin has one and the thing fits in the trunk and has the entire US on it.
MB stands for luxury. CD is to DVD as analog tape is to CD. And the worst part is that when you're using the navigation system, you can't listen to CD music.
