It is a Coupe and a Hatchback. By definition a coupe has two-doors, which the C230 has. End of discussion, it is both, what do you want them to name it the C230 SportCoupe Hatchback? That is a little long. It is both, as it has 2-doors and a damn hatch.

Actually, why don't you people who are so disturbed by MB calling the car C230 Coupe sue MB, citing that they mislead the consumers and purposely upclass the hatchback by definition to be a coupe so that they can sell it at a higher price?
If the car is a hatchback by all means, MB is at fraud. Then we coupe owners can get some money back when the car is renamed back to it's low class status.
This will be a win-win situation. You guys will be peace with the name C230 Hatchback, and I won't mind my car being officially a hatchback with the extra $10k or so that I'll get back from MB

Actually I was not crabbing just stating that it by definition is both. As is the Dodge Viper GTS, Corvette, and I am sure some others. But you do not see SoCal crabbing about the Corvette or Viper GTS not being called Hatchbacks.

By the way, the last few times I noticed that SoCal240/6 posted his hatchback vs. coupe arguments someone else first mentioned him by name/asked his opinion - then got upset when he replied with his usual response.

Also, the rear doors appear to have the same size differential from the front doors as a 3-series sedan.
I think the original suicide door design was much more keeping with a coupe designation.

bmw 3 series is a hatch too
when you think about it, the 3 series coupe is a hatch too. The definition of a hatchback is a 2 door vehicle that has no clear (stell) boundary beetween the passanger and the trunk compartment. Prelude is an example of a true coupe cuz you cant reach the trunk by folding the rear seats down. I read it in motor trend somewhere. Correct me if I'm wrong.
