Who has refinished their '05 and newer front grill?
I currently have the CL grill from MyMercedes but getting tired of the big Mercedes emblem and thinking of different ways to treat the stock grill in my '06 C230. First thought was to spray with Duplicolor MetalCast Smoke to get a "black chrome" look. Next was to mask off the chrome trim ring and paint the center section matt black.
Anyone have pics of what they have done with theirs and if you like the way it worked out?
Ultimatly I would like to modify the CL grill and remove the emblem but that's gonna require a bunch of work. Maybe a winter project.
Thanks!

I think one of the members here already did that. Slvr230SS I believe? Hopefully he sees this thread and can comment on how hard it was to do (if it was even him I'm thinking of).

That's me. =) Yes, I bought the CL grill, took out the star, and bridge them with fiberglass and bondo. I'm still working on it to put the carbon fiber. I've been busy with family and work, haven't spent too much time on it. It's not that hard, but it takes patience. Once I finish, I'll update everyone.

That looks really nice!!! Can you elaborate on the process that you had to go through? I'm assuming that you first cut out the star and then laid fiberglass matt up on each slat until you got close to the final shape and then finished with bondo. What did you use to back the fiberglass while it was setting up?
Anyone use the Duplicolor Metalcast Smoke on anything? Kinda looks like anodizing and is available in red, blue, smoke, etc.
