HID Fogs

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know if the fog lights on our vehicles are monitored by the computer to inform us of a burnt out light bulb?

I am thinking about installing a HID kit for my fogs but again there is the 35W HID kit to the 55W halogen problem I am worried about again.

Thanks.

the computer does monitor the fog lights and shows bulb out errors if a bulb goes bad.

it depends on what HID kit you get for the fogs as to whether or not it will show an error.

yes the fogs are monitored.

contact carlab and get their V3 hid system. no error message.

Bummer! I guess I'm just going to stick with the halogens then. The reason I was considering HID fogs was because I have an extra H7 kit right now but I can purchase a pair of 9006 bulbs and re-use the ballast/ignitor. However, the extra kit that I have gave me an error message when I installed it in my headlights so I had to install a relay and a resistor to bypass the computer and stop it from flickering. All this seems like a little too much work for my fogs and I'm not sure if I want to wire everything up again... what a shame.

Anyways, thanks a lot for the replies guys!! I appreciate the help.

I got the Top Hid kit from Ebay for $78, and they work fine, no errors.

It's possible for a capacitor to explode due to engine heat. Ricer bulbs it is then!! haha

I dunno about most people but when my alarm goes off the fogs flash (bad for HIDs). That and I like to keep my entrance/exit lighting since its not a feature on most cars, not on the fogs atlease.

If the HID doesn't work in this case, I'll always stick with the halogen, because this feature is one of my favorite...I get most of my looks with this feature along with the puddle lights...

dude, how often does your alarm go off? that isn't even an issue to me.

as for the entrance lighting with the HID fogs, it works perfectly and the HID fogs look waaaaaay better than halogens for that purpose... the HID fogs make the entrance lighting look way more impressive.

I had HIDs in the fogs before, my alarm has already gone off a few times already. Even just by the alarm going off once with the flashing its decreasing the ballast/bulbs life. I guess I live in a ghetto neighborhood.

The HIDs did make a nice looking entrance/exit light. I got no issues with the exit light but when I unlock my doors at night it takes me less than 5 seconds to walk into my door. It was pointless for them to turn on for that long and shut off.

Ohhh ok, the way he described it, I thought it wouldn't work...in that case, I'd love to someday get HID fogs, lol....

The only time my alarm has ever gone off, it was inaudible, and would not turn off, because there was an issue with it when I took delivery...so I've never heard my alarm...

i have hid fogs in my car and truly love the look and the extra light on the road at night.

but a question, i turned off my feature for entrance light because i thought the constant turning on and off of the hid's may not be a good idea? would it effect the hid if i had that feature on?
thinking about it every time i walk to my car at night and un-lock they will turn on and then turn right off as soon as i open the door? and then when the car turn on i turn fogs on again. followed by the same thing when the car turns off???? so is that not too much stress on the hid bulbs? ????

Good question, Im wondering the same thing and hoping a get a HID FOGS from Carlab soon.

Also, exact same thing happens to my low beam HIDs whenever I pull into the garage in auto. The HIDs will flick on for a brief second because of the sensor... then I turn off the car.

Im too lazy to switch out of "auto" and remembering to turn my lights "on" everytime I drive at night/fog/caves/underground and "off" everytime I park (way 90s).

Idk, maybe if I get HID Fogs, Ill be so accustomed to driving with fogs on at night and submit to flicking them on and off (no fogs in auto)....therefore saving my lowbeams when I enter the garage.

Choices to make..

I've been running my HID fogs for I think a little over a year and a half. I leave the auto mode on and and do use them while driving and even during the daytime. They're still pretty good...

Yes more stress, when HIDs ignite they take a larger amount of current and eventually level off to 35watts (50watts if you got those kits). Turning them on and off for short periods of time is not good for them even for the best branded HID. This was what I was getting at in my previous post. It looks real nice and bright but I too lots of night driving.

my 99 E320 doesn't turn on the fog lights upon entry so it's only an issue
when exiting the car after using the headlights. but the solution isn't too
painful here either: after engine shut off, with headlight switch OFF,
manipulate ignition key to position #2. then, key back to #0 and exit
vehicle. fogs (courtesy lighting) will stay off.

if the HID kit flickers after install, you can do some re-wiring to make them not flicker, donno how to do it in detail, but i'd suggest you to get some professionals to do the installation, it requires taking off the bumper anyways, which is not an easy work

hid fog lights for the win... and yeah, i concur, flicker is NG and probably due to wiring. i've mentioned this elsewhere, but doe sanyone know wher eto get a quality 55w kit? i picked up a kit from neverburnout (here) and i'm fine with it... but it's a 35w kit and well... bigger is better.

i need bigger.

Does anyone happen to have a D.I.Y. for installation of HID kit for the fogs on a 05 c230. Any help is appreciated.
