Lightbulb Happy news on Eibach sways for C-Coupe

OK, just for sh*ts and giggles, I put in an order for sways (PLEASE no dumb replies on how Eibachs are anti-rollbars) yesterday, when I was kind of surprised that they let me get that far on their online ordering process. Here's what I've learned so far:

last week, when calling Eibach, they said that they were going to start to bring them in in early December. Talked to a rep at Tirerack early this morning to make sure that they're going to get some of the initial sets when they come in; he said that he'd have to call Eibach and get back to me.

Well, he just called, and said that Eibach will be sending in sets in TWO WEEKS!!!! Which means that I should have a nice, shiny set in about three. And yes, that does make me #1 on Tirerack's waiting list for them.

So, if you really want 'em, and don't want to pay more from other vendors, call Tirerack, or Discount, and get yourself on the list.

Thought I'd pass along the info.

Not sure yet. The installation was pretty expensive for my crx's bars, but since this car isn't lowered, might try it myself.

I will need an assistant, though. Think Eileen would let you leave the house for a couple of hours? :p

How would smurf blue powdercoated bars look?

hey guys Ive had the sway bars for a while now, I think im the only one with them, dont know why tho!!, ok the install is very simple, your gonna need to lift the car up, take the plastic cover off, loosen the bolts on bar (torx) and the bushings , place the new one with the new bushings that come in the kit, grease them up first, and bolt everything back up and your done, maybe an hour job if you do it alone.

Tommy, how much do they cost in the States? If they are arriving in the US in the next two weeks they will take another couple of months or more to come down under...pain in the ***. I wonder if the AMG's are availabe here?

They're $373 plus shipping.

But I'm guessing that Eibach US pushed forward delivery here at least in part to getting a few calls about their kit. SO, I'd bug Eibach AUS & your local shop to see if you can drum up some interest.

Fernrod, thanks for the install info.

well, its probably gonna take you more time if you dont have the exact tools, and if you havent done it before, I recomend to start w the front one, and then do the back, wait till you se the tiny rear sway bar the "sport"coupe brings, its a joke!!! the diference in body roll is incredible, lot more direct in the corners, wait till you have them!!!!!!

2002 C230 Kompressor
Hey all:

I am new to the MBWorld Forum and for that matter new to the world of car modifications. I have owned my C230 for over a year now and really want to make some changes. I hear everone speaking about the Swap Bars and Spring, but i really am not sure if by doing these mods, does this void any warranties?

Thanks

Since this is your first post, I'll be gentle.

Do a search; this is one of those issues that's been discussed to death here.

In short, no, mods will not technically void your warranty, but that does not mean that your local dealership will still service your car afterwards. Basically dealer-specific, so beware!

Of all the mods, I think new sway bars is the least likely to void the warranty - mostly because I don't think the dealer would ever notice they were added. I'd guess springs and rims probably are next on the list of safest things to do.

Welcome aboard, BT

I think the dealer would notice the Eibach bars. They're red. I think the Evosport bars are purple.

yup eibachs are red, but they are not that obvious since the coupe has a plastic under panel that covers them, but you can se the ends attached to the links

Somebody school me on this. Why is it not important to change both the rear AND front sway bars at the same time, like springs? Thanks!

isn't the rear one exposed? anyway, i think we're going to paint tommy's swaybars a shade of blue. i'll bring a couple of cans of the high temperature rustoleum. (if they unlock the spray paint cabinet for me...)

Easy answer: springs work as a team; each sway bar is an individual.

The bars keep the left and right side from swaying or rolling (hence the name); the front sway doesn't impact the rear. OK, indirectly, it does, but not much.

On the other hand, if you put a pair of H&Rs on your front, and keep the rears stock, you'll have a difference in height and thickness of the springs. Which will yield terrible handling, and look really dumb.

Lynn, I'm getting the limited edition Smurf-colored option for my bars. :p

So, does a car's tendency to body-roll come from the rear of a car?

Does Eibach make the sway bars for the C sedan as well, or are they only for the coupe, or does it not matter? I'm trying to decide between Eibach or ordering the AMG parts from a C32. What's the source for these bars? Thanks.

all indications are that the swaybars are good for both the sedans and coupes.

TXTiger, go to the dealer for AMG parts.

Jim, the whole car causes body roll. The front/rear bias is an under/oversteer issue.
