Once again, I must stress, these computers aren't very accurate and usually overestimate the fuel economy.
If you'd like to continue seeing such superlative fuel economy, please write MBUSA letters stating you hope they continue to import the four cylinder models to the United States.
PS... that took a little longer to type, just got back from a party in Palm Bay! Just a whole lot of
and
,
,
,
and then the
lol! Last time I let my friends convince me to go there! But anyways, back to the topic... Thats pretty good, the best I've gotten was around 35 hwy. But then again whenever I'm on the highway for long enough I usually have the car loaded with people or all my stuff... One night I got 29 city with extremely conservative driving and luckily no traffic.

Some of you guys are getting highway miles of 27mpg or so. So you thnk it could be the mods that make it a bit slower? I was thinking of putting on spoiler (front and back), but now i'm concerned about gas mileage change.
My friend's civic loses 2mpg after installing a roof rack. I believe my hood wind deflector makes my Rav4 lose a few mpg too. Am I crazy, or do you guys think that could actually effect it too?
SCOTTISHA: Nope, can't beat that. that's crazy. I'm at 32.5 or so at most. Wow, you must have had a lot of tail wind.
that's huge !! is my car too bad or what? Mine never went over 32MG
so sad ... poor girl....who got recently
by behind by the way(so sad... but yayyhh time to get an OEM rear bumper )

This after replacing the Cat, which was clogged.
I'm at 113K now, with original 02 sensors,
but everything else is good. (As in plugs, fuel filter, coil packs, cat, and MAF have all been replaced fairly recently, which leaves 02 sensor,
and possibly clogged injectors.)
MB doesn't seem to like people putting injector cleaner in the
car, but at some point, you kinda have to.
Is there certain types of cleaner that are ok, and others that are not?
Why slick 50? I saw a post with and MB "approved" additive, but
it was like 15 bucks...and likely it's just Kerosene or Alchohol, no?
Whats so special that you can't use additives in a benz?
Whats hose under the intake are you referring to McKay?
Are you on M111? I think I know the piece you're referring to, but
a pic would be great.
I had all of that apart when I did the header, so I might have mucked things up a bit.
I'm going to hook up my OBD live data scanner, check my fuel trim, and
leave it running....see if it detects any misfire that might not be enough to trigger a CEL.
If I have little wind and no help from other cars, I can still average 35.5 to 36 mpg.......It's just hard to get that kind of mileage out of the whole tank of gas....
Maybe we should have a mileage challenge.
Who can get the best mpg, per class (C230, C320, C32, etc..) after going 400 miles
Have a deadline of October 15th and see who can submit the best mileage (with picture) .
It can be a 2 part competition:
1....best MPG
2....most miles per tank, with no cheating....
I know it seems impossible not to win one, if you win the other, but it may also depend on when you fill up.....
I have an '03 C230k sport sedan w/automatic. I'm getting a solid 23-24mpg during small town driving (i.e. lots of stop signs/lights), calculated with miles driven/gallons filled, not by the computer. The computer says I get ~1.5mpg higher than I calculate.
Also, for those getting poorer gas mileage, check you tire pressure. makes a difference for sure. Also, roof racks/wind deflectors make a difference too. On my truck, I went from the stock Goodyear dual-purpose tires to BFG all-terrains and propmtly lost 2mpg (but I needed better off-road tires for what I use the truck for). My wife driving the 230 also drops mileage down to ~21mpg
.
Truthfully....I kinda drove like a grandma, but did keep it around 70-75mph all the way. Solo, no one else in the car. No stops. 270 miles, driving from about 8:00pm until about 12:30 am. Took the Garden State Parkway from exit 91 thru the Tappan Zee Bridge, to 287, to the Merritt Parkway (which is pretty uphill going back East), to 95 into RI.
The best I could muster was 34.4 mpg. But.....on a drive I took from RI to NYC to see the NY Auto Show back in April, I got 36.7mpg, with 2 of us in the car (each about 150 lbs). But it was raining really hard, so I was going less than 65 most of the way.
My car: 2005 C230 WZ Sedan with 5-speed auto, about 23K on the odo, wearing summer Michelin Pilot Primacy rubber, and tire pressure bumped up about 4psi higher than recommended on the placard.
Cintoman
Forgive me if you already noted this, is this MPG actual or just what the computer shows? Meaning did you take miles per tank and divide by # of gallons put in at fill-up?
I find my computer gives totally inaccurate #'s, the best I've truly gotten (by using the above method) was 32.x on the highway.
On a side note, with over 100K on your C230 what problems have you encountered? I'm just about to hit 50K and am debating about an extended warranty. Any feedback you have is appreciated.
Thanks.

Well, he thinks this jumping around or jerking is what has been causing the sprocket to break on the compressor.......He's a great tech, as he's warrantied the compressor (parts and labor) each time......Other than that....just typical service for the past 110k miles....
I'm having him change my spark plugs and throw on my third set of wipers too.
I don't want to jinx myself, but the car has been super reliable and never left me stranded. (I'm knocking on wood)
I would buy this car again in a heart-beat.
same here, my car has like 61K replaced spark plugs with new NGK's begining of the summer. I actually just bout a bottle of fuel additives today STP i think w/e it was on sale... so hopefully that will help. I have service B coming up soon i'm sure the air filter is probably filthy so hopefully that will make my mpg go up.
