~24 mph is normal, I'm getting ~11 mpg after startup which slowly increases to ~24 mpg after 20 mins of driving.

I had a similar problem in my 05 c230k problem was bad gas. I live out in the boonys and i just got ahold of a bad gas station... My gas milage was around 16-17 mph now i get aroudn 30-31 in the country so it was a big difference for me

have u ever threw in a bottle of the "SLICK 50" type fuel additives? if not, try that out. and also, u might need to get your plugs changed soon.

If this was a carburetted car the 'automatic choke' would be the first culprit. Misfires on all cylinders would lead to the rich condition so have you looked at clearing the codes and checking them again when they are cold and then when hot? I don't know what circuit in your motor checks for operating temperature or how it could be affected. I'm assuming you changed the air filter recently.

I thought it could be the MAF, so replaced it, yet no improvement.

I'll pull the codes soon, yet the only codes of interest pulled last time were P0172 (rich) and misfires on all cylinders (P0301-304).
I've complained about bad gas mileage to the dealer for a long time and they said that my consuption was fine especially based on the short trips I make. They can find out your driving habits through the on board computer. Here are my findings in L/100km which is the world stardard other than US of A.

Winter best to worst:
city 13.8 - 17.8 L/100Km
highway 8.7- 10.2 L/100km

Summer best to worst
city 11.1 - 13.5 L/100Km
Highway 6.9 - 8.8 L/100km

These were calculated by actual fill ups not by the onboard system which is a guestimate.

I would have thought that it would have been a lot better considering it is only a 1.8L engine

Factors especially in the city how hard are you on the pedal to accelerate, listening to that high pitch wirl of the charger costs you at the pump. Driving at 130km/hr uses significantly more fuel than if you were going 112km/hr

My old Mazda 1986 626 turbo using a 2L engine had awesome mileage with similar performance numbers i.e. 0-100km/hr 7.2sec. Maybe I was expecting too much with an extra 26 years of technology...I guess not

Well i have the exact same problem. When I check out the reason, my independent mechanic told me it's the sensors near the catalytic converter. They failed so they can't tell if all the gas is being burnt or not, or something like that. I need to get it fixed.

I definately dont get that kinda mileage w/ my car. I can get up to 28 mpg if I just cruise on the highway, but if I drive hard in the city I can get around 19 and Im getting close to 80k miles. Time for a tune up

Yea, there's definitely something wrong with my car. C240 and I'm only averaging 17mpg (factoring in mostly city some highway). I'm just not sure where to start looking to improve it.

Bla bla
nothing is wrong, my 07 C230 V6 I got 1000 miles on it so far, I am only getting about 18-19 city and 24 highway. Depends on gear setting, C or S or whether you are driving very short distance, how many passengers, air conditioning on or not, are you an agressive driver, etc, etc. A lot of factors will affect your mpg

..

im getting about 21-22 city/hiway miles on mine...

i drive from jefferson city to kansas city missouri almost every weekend. about a 2hr drive

im average about 27-28 hiway on cruise set @ 70

one of my last hiway trips i got 31mpg with cruise set on 68.

my rear tires are brand new.. my fronts have aprox 5k on them... before each trip i check my tire psi.. i use prem gas. k/n air filters... and ive been putting some chevron/tercon junk in the fuel every other fill up. 70k ish miles on this car

i just started trying to calculate my mpg on my 94 e320.. (no elec cluster) im getting 20 mpg city/hiway in it... ill calcualte the hiway mpg tomorrow when i head to kc. tires are bit older on this car.... kns are in it... prem gas... i just started putting the chevron fuel additive in it...
110ish on this one

wow, when I average 40 mph I usually get like 20-22 mpg... but then again if Im averaging 40 im also driving like a gramma. If I average anything over 50, ill get 24+ according to the car. Usually when I put in new filters, Im able to squeeze out a lil more mpgs, but nothing major. Driving style is probably the one thing keeping your mpgs down....

excites your girlfriend
automatic tranny = bad gas mileage, v6 engine = awful gas mileage, 4matic = you're better off walking gas mileage

i always get stuck with the c240/c280 loaner at the stealership and the mileage they get makes me want to park it
