Scott-
Thanks...next time I fill up I'll take note of what the computer says my mileage was and what the actual was an post - I believe there is a huge difference between what the computer shows and what actual is.

Actually, if your tires are larger in diameter than standard, your calculated MPG's should go down because your wheel is now spinning at a lower RPM for the same actual speed. So the computer generated number would go down also.

There is really little wind resistant plus the tail wind was helping, so I guess thats why I got the 39MPG. Plus I just got a oil change w/ Mobil 1 and put +2 Psi on all the tires that same afternoon, don't know if those things help any with the gas mileage at all.
Anyway, The new benchmark is 39MPG!!!

In what Gear?
I'm not going to get 25mphs for every 1000rpms in 1st or 2nd gear...
I can tell you my RPMS are at in 6th gear at 80mph though, once I drive home...
I think when I had an automatic loaner the 6spd auto was shifting pretty darned close to where I shift my manual.
I'll double check my 6th gear on my way home.

Nope, no hills. Just flat highway on I-65 going from West Lafayette, IN to Chicago, IL. The highway is pretty flat with no hills, I got a good strong tail wind which helped A LOT, also I was driving behind a U-Haul truck which my GF was the driver since she is moving up to Chicago for her new job. I drove behind the truck at about 70MPH.

I love tucking in behind 18 wheelers. They suck me right along and I get outstanding gas mileage....I made it 15 miles, with my computer saying, "0 miles to empty" by drafting a big truck. I was shocked I didn't run out of gas...I think my fill-up took 16.3 gallons, so I was riding on fumes.
If I would have had a co-pilot, it would have been just like the Seinfeld episode where Kramer took that car on a test drive.

Gas Consumption
Hey guys,
I have almost had my car for... 9 months now.., and I expected the gas consumption to be less after the break in. It's around 9600 miles (or 14500 km), and the average is at (20.6 mpg) or 11.6 L per 100 km. This mileage sucks, especially when it's advertised to be much lower. I know some people would say it depends on how you drive, I DO NOT slam my foot on the gas, and even on highways AT MAX I get around 23.5 mpg or 9.5/11.00 L per 100 km.
I am taking the car for service next week, and i was wondering if I should address this to the dealer. I was at the e90post just now, and the 335i Coupe gets around 23.5 mpg.
What's with this?
Model that I have is : C280 2007
Thanks guys

actually considering our C230(2.5L V6) getting 18mpg on city and upto 28mpg on hwy, your mpg isn't bad. Not sure what the published mpg is though. what size is the engine on C280?

I have a 335i sedan and it averaged 26.8 mpg while driving at 80 mph all the way from Las Vegas to Southern California. I guess that's because of highly precised fuel injection system (that's what I heard).
I'm a e90post member, too. I come to this forum to get more info about my wife's new 2007 Mercedes C230 that we picked it up last Saturday. I think the C230's average highway mpg is around 23??

First of all don't go by what the computer on the dash says, not that accurate, do it manually when you fill up
11.6L / 100km = 24.3mpg (imperial gallon)
9.5L / 100km = 29.7 mpg (imperial gallon)
US mileage will be less in mpg as their gallon is 20% smaller
I think that is quite respectible for a 3L V6 car. Don't forget that the Transport of Canada ratings are fantasy, i.e. driven in a lab, with no starts and stops, no wind resitance (car is stationary) and no rolling resistance as only the wheels that are powered are on a roller.
Give you a reference for my 1.8L Kompressor
Best 6.7L/100km 42.2mpg (highway at 108km/hr on cruise)
Worst 17.1/100km 16.49mpg (city driving in February when it was -15*c)
Average 12L/100km 23.5mpg (mixed driving, and gunning it when I have to)
average highway 8L/100km 35mpg (driving at 120-135km/hr)

Usually, what ever the EPA sitcker is you minus 2-3 from the MPG depending on your driving. I only use about 1/4 of the throttle 80% of the time. Literally!
So, i guess 20 MPG isnt a bad rating at all.

Does weather factor into the type of MPG you get? Because i notice in the summer i got great mileage but lately since its been very cold its not as great
