Ofcourse! As soon as you start your car your mileage should ideally read 0 mpg. But it starts somewhere around 15 mpg and goes down pretty quick if you are idling. The reason being that you are consuming the gas while idling and putting on '0' miles, so mpg = 0/whatever gas consumed = grand ZERO. When you start moving, the mpg starts increasing.

its kind of pricey, does it work better than the other fuel additives in the auto parts store???

Any car uses more fuel until it warms up.
I see the 'other' C230 Sport Coup(e) person has been banned, so I don't think he'll be able to answer...I don't see anything in his previous posts that might have caused it..
hmmm...well he did keep asking how to change an 02 sensor, which is a one bolt, one plug, self explanatory issue and he refused to simply LOOK.
Maybe that was it. I dunno!

i drove from Sacramento to San Francisco with 27mpg. then change the filter and sparkplugs... i hit 31mpg... then use additive and hit 32mpg. now i dont know if it is better than other ones coz never tried. but yeah if you re warming up your car the mpg after start will decrease to 16mpg after around 5min of idl.

I think this is normal.

Changing the MAF and primary O2 sensor helped gas mileage after warm-up. Going to change the secondary O2 sesnor and see if it improves it further.
BTW the plug for the primary O2 sensor wasn't exactly straight forward to find, it took jacking up the car and taking off the underbody panels.
My guess is that its the leaky hose under the intake. Its a $12 part and an easy DIY, so going to change that too when it arrives. After that, dunno.

Gas Mileage on my way home....Can you beat this?
so, I filled up before I left Melbourne and this was my average after pulling into my driveway....I think I could have got a few more tenths, had it not rained during part of the trip...the rain increases the rolling resistance...No down hill stuff either...Florida is flat!
This is with 110,000 + miles on a car with the original spark plugs.

1 more note.....I had averaged 73 mph most of the way home, until I got into town and hit traffic and stop lights.....I was also almost at 38mpg before having to stop for a few lights and stop signs.

mine is a 3.5L (C350) a 6 spd but only has 1500 miles. On my way from Ohio to Florida I averaged about 32mpg. I am hoping it will get better. I think the sticker showed 21/30 so i am actually above the EPA guess...
Great mileage though!

My gas sipping C-Class
I'm curious to see what will happen when I get my spark plugs and oil changed next week...I'm 300 miles out from service A.
My wife and I drove to Gatlinburg a couple years ago and I reset the trip at the top and coasted all the way down the hill..It was like 8 miles and I averaged exactly 80 MPG...
You have to admit, these little 1.8's get some great gas mileage when driven conservatively......I honestly get around 28 mpg per typical tank...I do 90 mph most of the way to work....I leave my house in Orlando by 5:20 each morning to head to West Melbourne, so I encounter minimal traffic.
The most miles I got between fill-ups was 499.8 miles.......I had to stop and get gas, as I drove 7 miles with "0 miles till empty" on the dash...Maybe I'll try again for 500 one day.

I tend to get high 20's most of the time on the highway, there are lots of cars and traffic in the Boston area, and also, you have to drive more aggressively to fit in with the rest of the maniacs, lol. On drives about an hour or more like the one you had...I tend to get low 30's. If I remember correctly, one time I was up to about 36mpg driving through the mountains near Mt. Washington in NH.

2019 C300 Wagon; '75 Triumph TR6; previous: 2004 C230 6spd sold after 17 years of driving
The best I got was 6.7L/100km on a return trip of 232km highway only, filled up, got on the highway drove one direction visited the parents, came back filled up same gas station, same pump. I averaged 112km/hr, cruise control, windows closed, no air cond. These numbers were calculated not by the computer (always suspect) but actual amount of gas that went in (i.e. when the pump clicked off)
Although everyone else in the world would understand the specs, I will translate in American:
distance traveled 143.8mi
Mpg (US Gallon) 35.05
Mpg (imperial gallon) 42.2
avg speed 69.44mph
