The C-Class GAS MILEAGE thread
It's interesting that driving style seems to make more of a difference than engine type.
I've also noticed better mileage as the AMG engine "breaks in".
Or maybe I'm not using the HP as much now? I DON"T THINK SO!!!!
C230 - 6 spd., AC on always.
Anyway, in the city I get about 12 to 15 mpg and on the hwy, I get about 25 mpg.
I spent the the weekend in the Sierras and on the way back from down from 9000 feet, I got 40 mpg until I hit the Central Valley. It was a blast drving the car down 9000 feet. It just loves those mountain roads.
I hate the mpg on this car. If the EPA estimates were correct I would have bought another car. THis is horrible on the environment, not to mention the terroist issues.

Notice that the MPG is improving over time/odo mileage:
Season-------Conditions-------Odometer----AvgSpd----MPG
Sep.2001----A/C am+pm-------4,500 mi------28mph----19.0
Nov.2001-----EC am+pm-------6,000 mi------27mph----21.1
Feb.2002----heat(a)-EC(p)-----8,200 mi------28mph----21.7
Apr.2002-----EC am+pm--------9,500 mi------29mph----22.5
Jun.2002-----EC(a)-A/C(p)----10,800 mi------29mph----22.7
Current morning commute with EC only (68 degrees) at 29mph = 24-24.5 mpg
Current afternoon commute with A/C only (90 degrees) at 28mph = 20.5-21 mpg... Yes, using A/C hurts the mileage in traffic.
If you are interested in tracking your mileage, start resetting the "after reset" page in the MFD with each fill-up and write down your end of tank trip odo (tank miles), avg speed and avg mpg in a logbook.

A good training movie for driving in SF is Bullitt. Saw it last week and I'm ready! I bet Detective Frank Bullitt didn't get 12-15mpg on his '68 Mustang.
The results of my test regarding "EC REST" for the entire tank is as follows.
Combination of street and freeway.
325 miles
30 miles per hour average
21.0 mile per gallon
That's horrible!!
That's babying the car too!
I use Texaco. Got a bad tank of Chevron once (different car) and haven't bought Chevron since. Yes, it can happen with any brand.
car now has 14k miles on it.
It shouldn't make any difference, however it seems like I get more miles per gallon using Mobil rather than Chevron. I'll do a test on that aswell and let you know on this tread.
I can honestly say that my friend and I have BOTH experienced increased gas mileage with Mobil 1 gas.
Food for thought.
I live in Canada where we don't have Mobil gas stations. So, the only time I use Mobil gas is when I drive down to the U.S.

)$1.60/gallon...
My display shows MPG all over the map so I can't really tell how economy it is short of using pencil & paper method.
I never have it better than 21MPG based on the after long reset

Peace
14 gallons will cost me around $72 in UK
3.785 L vs 4.546 L, respectively.
Just wondering...
