How very... original...

Well, I'm pretty sure most of you have seen the comercials for this car...

At first glance I'd probably say "oh, it's the new CLK", but upon closer inspection...

THE NEW HONDA ACCORD COUPE!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I totally agree with you.

It showed very little imagination on the part of MB designers when they styled the new CLK like a Japanese car. Its a dead ringer for the new Acura CL.

I also agree...when I first saw the new CLK at the MB dealer, I thought they had a used Acura CLS on the lot for sale....wrong...it was the new CLK.....especially when you look at the new CLK from the same angle as that picture...almost dead on.

It is utterly ridiculous for a company like MB to allow a japanese economy car to outrun cars priced almost 2x as much. The same goes for bmw though, how can MB and BMW let an accord have more power then their best sport sedan offerings? (excluding AMG of course)

The V6 Accord isn't exactly an economy car - the V6 version starts at $23K.

Two days ago I stopped at a light to find myself next to a new CLK. How uninspiring... My "downmarket" hatchback is more of a Mercedes than that thing... I have always adored the "old" CLK as far as the body design is concerned (not the platform itself, though).

I couldn't agree more. The CLK - what a joke. The C230 - now that proudly carries on MB's rich tradition and storied history of inexpensive, 4 cylinder hatchbacks.

Well, the CLK is pretty much a hatch too; with its slanted trunk and what not. Not to mention there's a CLK 270 CDI, CLK 200 kompressor, and CLK 200 CGI. But I guess we shouldn't start down this road again ... not saying the C-coupe is better than the CLK, just saying Mb does have a "rich tradition and storied history of inexpensive, 4 cylinder hatchbacks."

Well I think people are reacting quite harshly in regards to the new CLK. I think its a beautiful car, I love it, I definitely want one, and it will be my next car. I will admit though that the new CLK should have been the C-Coupe in my opinion. For the price of the new CLK it could have been a little more original. But damn, had the C-Coupe looked like that, I definitely don't think there would be so much ****-talking about the C-Coupe. Of course, the C-Coupe is still a beautiful car.

im with you tberry. i have a friend that just bought a 03 CLK500. definatlely no accord or acura TL. this car is so freakin awesome if i had the $$$ i would have bought one. i love the styling and im glad that MB had gone back to the pillarless window they had in the W124 coupes, W123 coupes, and on. plus the interior is very well layed out and looks just as great. IMHO though!! take it as you will.

i liked the old one as well. but there is something about the new one i really like. in the pic the accord does resemble the clk from the rear. but i would only say from the rear. thats just me though. like i said before the pillarless windows are great. i wish the C230 had them. i had them in my 83 300CD, my grandma had them in a 91 560SEC. they are a feature which just adds that mush more to the car. maybe thats the big selling point for me on the new CLK.

W 209

à chaq'un son goût...

I also like the W 209 more than the W 208. The new car looks a lot like a C Sedan (a.k.a. Stepback or Notchback), only quite a lot better. It is a very pretty flowing design, something that could not be said of the macho W 208 body style. Old Mercedes were stolid and chunky, typified by the old C Class (W 202) and E Class. The new Mercedes are graceful and feminine-looking. Especially the C Class Notchback with its sleepy but inviting bedroom eyes

The front of the CLK looks like a CL, so that's not a bad thing. The side profile is nice and the rear is like a cross between a C Class Notchback and the new SL.

If the Accord looks better to some of you, fill your boots! I'm sure it's a more reliable car than anything made in Germany.

I just wish the 170 HP direct injection gasoline CLK 200 CGI was available here; 40 MPG US and that style, at a cost some 25-30% lower than the CLK 320 V6. THAT would be tempting...

I love the new CLK as well. Excellent design in and out and a step in the right direction in my opinion. I liked how the old CLK looked except I always thought the front was too bug- eyed. But the interior on the old CLK- YUCK! the new c- class interior beats it by a mile, not to mention the gorgeous interior of the new CLK.

I don't see the similarity in the Accord and the W209. At least to me, they don't look alike. To mistaken a Accord for a CLK, either you are DRUNK or you are ON something.

if you ever seen the new CLK during the night, you'll see that the rear end shape is very much like the W208 CLK. Except that it's new tail light is much bigger than the W208.

The new CLK is awesome. Especially the CLK500. Before anyone gets critical about it they really should drive one.

We don't even have to prove that Honda was trying to copy German styling.

I JUST saw a commercial for the new Accord on Speedvision/Speedchannel (whatever it's called these days), and in the commercial, the driver enters a disk called "learning German", and, as you can imagine, they proceed to talk about the car not being German, etc. etc. blah blah You get the idea.

"You think it's German (because it looks like a Mercedes), but it's not! We just copied their design, and slapped an 'H' on it."

I've heard from a friend that in Asia, they had this commercial of a guy driving a Ford (dont' know what model). His friend came up to him and asked "is this a Mercedes?"

Now THAT'S lame!

The back of the Accord Coupe looks better than the CLK. I actually think i like the Accord better for looks. They did a Comparison on the CLK320 and Accord COupe in this months Moter Trend. Coupe is pretty darn quick.

GOOD JOB finding the pictures, but u can tell the difference between conv and coupe can't u... u have to look at the car's basic shape without looking at the taillight.

Both W208 CLK Coupe and Convertible have the same rear end, didn't you notice? That aside, I agree with you that both W208 and W209 are cars with 4 wheels and 2 doors.
