Euro hatch for US coupe?

I think the Euro coupes are better looking in the rear than the US because they have the larger license plate area on the hatch.. Makes the car look bigger. How hard would it be to swap this out if I could get a Euro hatch? I wonder how much they are?

And a related warranty issue -- I made sharp mention of the tiny cracks above the little window area in the hatch when I bought the car pre owned from the dealer... he said to replace that area alone would not be worth it as they might botch the job of replacement. But, if I could get a whole new hatch - might be cool. Anyone do this?

You don't need the whole hatch man, that panel can be replaced on its own. Its just a single fibreglass panel, order one from Europe.

C230 Sport Coup + 2006 W164 ML350 + 99 Ford Escort (What the heck, it gets 38 mpg!)
I think I saw those on Steve BenzNL's list of stuff he can get.

You're looking at $500+ just for the plastic panel alone.
Then you need to get it prepped and painted ( ~ $100)
and then installed.... this is where it gets interesting...
Lots of labor hours involved, and possibly, the removal procedure of the US panel will most likely break the rear plastic window. The plastic panel itself is bonded to the metal hatch, and involves a bit of work. The WIS documents for this procedure are long and complicated, and several Mercedes-Benz techs I've already talked to are reluctant to do the work.
A certified Mercedes-Benz Collision Center may be the only place that will do this work correctly, so be prepared to pay $$$.

yes, I'm having it done, but money is not an issue with my Coupé.

it might be "easier", but definitely NOT cheaper. The whole hatch is in the thousands, and shipping that HEAVY piece from Euro to North America won't be cheap.

C230k coupe 500sec convertible
looks like a great mod for someone who has everything else--- it is better i think to buy the whole unit and have it shipped here than to trust some hill jack to put this thing together-- it is never back to factory--- they can be picked up all over europe at the breakers for pennies so just put out the shipping money

if i had unlimited funds i would do this
