Air Flap Actuator?

I have a 2002 Mercedes C230 Kompressor Coupe 6spd and the car has thrown the code: p0239 Recirculating Air Flap Actuator. Is this a part I can just call up and order from Mercedes? Also, where is it located on the car? I am pretty handy with cars I just don't have any experience working on Benz's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

that sounds like the flapper valve actuator on the climate control. its probably buried very far under the dashboard. its most likely the flapper valve that closes off when you put on max a/c- so that it only cools the air in the car, and doesnt mix in any outside air.

There's a procedure to reset the flaps,
I think you press and hold the Recirc and Defrost buttons, and it will cycle through. Might fix it.

Actually, I think this code relates to a lack of air coming into the engine air filter. Thus your engine is air starved. You may notice a fail safe mode with reduced pickup on acceleration. The only reason i found this out is that the service CD mentions this code can pop up when someone has on a front bra.

Check your airfilter, switch it out if needed, and Reset the code.

Let us know.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It could be either option though because I can hear the air flap in the car trying to switch between both but won't switch to the feet and I am noticing reduced acceleration.

I just tried holding the recirc and the defrost buttons and I can hear it cycling through, but it can't go to the feet. I think there must be a problem with the motor or flap or something.

No, if you have an issue with your internal air ducting for heating/cooling of the interior, this is way different than having an engine that is air starved from acceleration.

Have you checked the condition of your air filter for the engine yet?

If you end up replacing the engine air filter, you need to reset the code too.

Right, I realize that I am working with two separate issues here. I am just not sure which one this specific code is refering to. I am going to try to locate the motor for the heater this weekend along with replacing the spark plugs and checking the filter. Thanks for the help!

To me, it sounds like your referring to the steppar motor issue, which is extremely common, although whatever the error is, its something different because I have the steppar motor issue and there is no error. If you want the heat or ac to go to the feet, this is what I do....sometimes if you quickly turn the air volume up it might induce the flip to the feet, if that doesnt work, I put the knob to go to the feet, and then turn off my car and pray that when the clicking stops it ends up on my feet ..its getting colder here in boston, so I'll be doing this more...

P0239 = "Turbo Super Boost Sensor B dircuit malfunction" () The flap noise is probably either the stepper motor or the flap actuator arm connected to the motor shaft (most common) that directs air to the footwell.

I may have my reference wrong. I'm working from memory. I got what I remember as the same code, and when I looked it up on the service disc It only mentioned an obstructions on the air intake for the engine.

I'm waiting to hear what he say about the condition of his air filter

Thanks for all the input guys! I still have not had a chance to mess with this car again since I posted this! I will do the search about the stepper motor. I need to get the heat thing straigtened out soon, the wife is complaining since it is getting colder here in Chicago.

$74 at RMeuropean. Depending on location it can run into a lot of labour for dash stripping & reassembly.

DIY possible with patience.
