huhhh??

Sorry for being thick but what is the purpose of replacing the stock hood with the fibre one? to better regulate the air flow? or to enable other types of mod that are otherwise not possible with the stock hood in place???

Thanks

typical OEM hood weigh about at least 25-30lbs and a good carbon fiber hood weigh about 3-6lbs (the kind that require hood pins b/c its so light u dont want it to fly off and the really light ones do not use OEM hydrolics latches for weight sake. I could be wrong but CB hoods can probably withstand higher temp too.

do most race cars have carbon fiber hoods? plus the carbon fiber hoods like BrabusCClass put on, is it real Carbon Fiber. im just asking, not being SoCal over the issue.

Citron...if the regulation allows it yes. BrabusCC's hood looks to be real carbon fiber...the quality can be better judge by how uniform/tight the weave is and the pattern of weave. I do not see hood pins so it seems to reuse factory latch points and perhaps even the hardware. Again BCClass stated that his car is a show car so its possibly more for show than to save weight (and thats why he's not painting it probably to those that asked)

Hmm, here's the thing though. The factory hood is designed to be part of the crumple zone. In an accident, it crumples upwards and dissipates some of the impact forces hence limiting the amount from the occupants of the vehicle. With a carbon fibre hood, the hood won't crumple but will simply shatter into hundreds of pieces. 've seen this happen on a Ferarri, except that the Ferarri was designed to have a carbon fibre body...the C-class is not.

Therefore I'm not so sure that it's a good idea! The difference in weight is so marginal that I don't think that it's even noticable unless timing devices are used and road conditions are identical.

what i find funny about all this is that when i posted a pic of my car and my hood... most people bad mouthed me about it, now brabusc posts pics of his car with the hood and he gets more positive comments... ofcourse i can't afford a kleeman supercharger or a brabus body kit, at least not yet... but looks-wise, we have the same hood and people bashed me for it... you may all hate my wing (i could care less) but you could at least not hate on the whole car just because of one part of it! And brabusc, the car looks great, congrats. And yes... I am expecting s#*t for this post... so please lay it thick, so i can enjoy myself reading it.
