Picked up my new (well new to me) 2004 C220 CDi Avantgarde saloon with sport pack, I didnt realise it had HK, it doesnt sound any different to the standard install, just noticed the badge tonight!

is it just me? or perhaps there is something up with it?

I have a H/k and when I get in a loaner C class I can tell. Highs and mids aren't as crisp.

Hmmmm, I've just had a play with a few CD's.. it's so hard to tell... wondering if someones just stuck the badge on! Call to the supplying dealer tomorrow I think.

interesting, the H/K came on models 2005 and above in the U.S., but I assume the year system is different in Leeds than in the U.S. does your car have the updated interior?

Actually the way they identify MYs in Europe is different from the US. In the US a MY05 can have a build date of MY04. In Europe they would call that a MY04.

The difference in sound between a premium system (Bose or HK) and the standard stock system isn't huge. The average person probably wouldn't notice a big difference, but an audiophile probably would notice more of a difference.

The main difference is the premium system will generally have a cleaner sound, with overall sound volume being similiar. The sound will be crisper, and voices will sound more natural.

My car (2005) has the HK sound system. There is a sub-woofer in the rear deck just under the Harman Kardon lettering. I believe the standard system does not have the sub-woofer.

My buddy has the regular system and it doesn't have a sub in the trunk. I have the HK with the sub and between the two cars, the system in my car can sound better depending on the music and where I set the bass and trebble.

Hi again,

The car is the facelifted version, im guessing this would qualify it as being a 2005 MY.

I have to agree after agonising for sometime with an array of CD's there are some subtle differences.

My problem now is that with some of my more high level bass dance CD's im getting a really annoying rattle from the rear parcel shelf, and left front door speaker...

I'm guessing blown speakers! anyone else suffered from this?

Now that some of you are saying you have the standard version and no subwoofer Im confused, because I do not have bose or HK and I have a subwoofer...is this what they call the standard premium system??

how do you know you have a subwoofer?

I have HK, and it doesnt seem like I have a seperate subwoofer... (just a lot of speakers)

regular speakers are fine I think, but with HK you can hear the difference (I set mine to surround, very different from standard)

I have a standard system and it has a sub woofer. You can see it in the trunk when you look up under the parcel shelf, a down facing speaker

Will a HK system from a 2006 C230 work in a 2003 C230? I am sure the speakers will, but I don't know about the amp.

I remember reading something about older W203s using Fibre Optic vs the newer 2005 and greater models with the MOST internals (or something like that).

I could be wrong....
