I think this is an urban legend. I once had the officer put down the wrong car color - didn't get the ticket dismissed. I think once you sign the ticket, you verify everything he wrote down as being correct - any error is then your responsiblity.

Sorry man.

He wrote you up at 112? Sounds like he didn't cut you any breaks. Unless you were really going 130....

i was once a witness for a crime and had to go to the police station to give my statement... i watched the sergeant make so many typos that i wanted shake his head.

it may not be an urban myth, but i think a judge wouldn't dismiss a case b/c of a typo unless it was a serious breach in error (like, the wrong guy).

I was recently called as a witness to a car accident, so I sat in traffic court all morning until the case I was there for was called. The judge was pretty lenient, especially if somone had a decent "excuse". Almost everyone pleaded "guilty with extenuating circumstances". The judge would listen to the reason and in most cases reduced the speed and/or points. The one person who said "not guilty" got the most problem. But, 112 in a 65 is kind of extreme -- good luck!

In California if you go 25mph over the posted limit you can go to jail right then and there if the cops want to take you in! You would have your license suppended at the very least.

Camaro

Did yall see the vid on the info superhighway about the old M3 that was chased for many miles by "the Camaro"? That little unit gave him a hell of a hard time.

On a side note: Today I got lucky, doing the expressway (45) at about 65-70. Look up to see a bevy of cops pointing in my direction about 1/4 mile ahead. So I slow it down to maybe 50. Detector never lit up. As I go by I realize THREE of them had radar guns! But, not even a beep from by detector! One of the cops even smiled at me as I went by. Nobody pulled out. I do believe they were City cops demo-ing NEW laser guns, if so they had me dead, just were busy having fun I suppose.

Last high speed ticket I got was 75 in 45 cost was about $550. Worst part was I had to go to court, no choice about that.

Here in Ontario anything 50+ kmph over the limit you go to court, and almost definitely lose your license for a month. You can be charged with careless or reckless driving too.

I had to do it for 62 kmph over the limit (about 40 mph), but got lucky. Plead young and stupid, female judge knocked it down to $200 from $750 and got away on a technicality and didn't lose my license for a month.

7 out of 9 times i got a ticket in my life i went to argue it in court and won. the other 2 times i couldn't make it to court (school) so just send the check in the mail.... i argue with all thereoms i learned in calculus and not one prosecutor or judge knew what the hell i was talking about so they just let me win.

btw, i'm due in court dec 5 for another one. going for 8 out of 10.

You obviously don't live in Northern Virginia No "thereom" would help you here... They just want to collect your money as part of the state's revenue plan.

You're lucky.....
In NJ you'd get mandatory court appearance, the minimum fine is $65 for ANY moving violation plus $10 per mile an hour over the limit, plus court costs. Fines are then doubled because you were in a 65mph zone.

He could have also written you up for 'careless' or 'reckless' driving. The cop could have then impounded your car on the spot and you'd never see it again. (they sell them at auction after 30 days if ALL fines are not paid...you'd be lucky to even get a court date in 30 days)

Attorney fees would cost you at least $750 and they'd only tell you to try an plead down to a lesser charge. Most judges (political appointees) won't even listen.

Beyond that you'd get at least 8 points on your license from DMV (4 for speeding, 4 for excessive speeding...possibly 4-6 more for additional careless/reckless). This reflects on your drivers license for 3 years. This said, you DO get a 'good behavior' credit of 1 point per year without a moving violation AFTER the first 3 years without a ticket, so 8 points would hang with you for at least 11 years. Total up 12 points and you lose your license for a minimum of 6 months...at the judge's discretion.

Oh, and let's not forget about insurance points. Insurance companies would charge you $300 per year per DMV point, so you'd increase your insurance costs by $2400 for 3 years, then an exponential reduction based on DMV points.
(This is what happens when 'we the people' don't show up at the voting polls and allow DUMBocrat liberal lawyers with ties to insurance companies into public office)

I think in CA if u get pulled over for going over 100mph they will write it up as reckless driving. that's worth than just speeding. Not sure if it's true though.

They should take into account that its a MB!! Its so easy to get carries away in it as it is so smooth and steady. But the cops are pretty bad here and it is illegal to have a radar detector, so I'm usually very careful. One of my mates has already gone to court for going 50Km/hr over the limit.

I got a ticket in CA before and was dismissed by the judge because the police put in the wrong code for it.

Anything 25mph over the limit in CA can be writen up as reckless driving. Much worse than just a speeding ticket!

good thing i never got pulled over. otherwise i would've gotten ticket for reckless driving all the time. 85-90 mph average speed on the fwy.

i also notice people today drive much faster than 2 years ago. today the average speed on 60 fwy is about 80-85. 2 yrs ago was only around 70-75.

Yep, I've noticed that too. I think its partially because cars are so much better than they were a few years ago.

I got a ticket in CA before and was dismissed by the judge because the police put in the wrong code for it.
If he made the ticket for one charge and presented a different charge in court, then yes, the case must be dismissed. He could simply give you a new corrected ticket for a new court date if he wished, but that would probably be too much trouble unless it was a serious charge. The armchair attorney might scream "double jeopardy", but it wouldn't apply since you weren't charged with the correct charge in the first place.
