'03 C230 Engine rev limiter / fuel cutoff

I just got my '03 C230 and I'm having a very strange issue. I took a very poorly executed shift the ohter day and noticed that my rev's got well past the 6000 red line. When I thought about it later I DID have my foot on the gas when this happened. I read through my manual and re-read the section that talks about the fuel cutoff at "excessive rev's". I then decided to do a test, I put the car in first and started accelerating slowly. To my horror I saw the tach go right past 6000 and up to 6500 before I almost went in my pants and took my foot off the gas.

Every other car I have been in that has a rev limiting system has been very clear cut, you simply cannot go above the redline. This system appears to be quite different or there is something wrong with my car.

I called the dealer and talked to 2 different service managers who obviously had no clue how the limiter is supposed to work. I also called mercedes customer service line the technical support rep told me I should bring the car in.

Why should I bring the car in if the service center has no idea what the car is "supposed" to do? Has anyone else noticed this problem or knows what is going on here?

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Blax...

Sorry, that one line I seemed to miss. I haven't found the rev limited yet, and I went way above redline several times already.

I'd go to the dealer and insist on test driving a couple more 03s. If they all act like yours, you're ok. ( Either yours is ok, or it will be covered in the eventual recall )

If they are different than yours, then you can demand that yours be fixed.

excessive rev's fuel cutoff is the system on all cars that will cut fuel if you keep the engine past redline for an extended period of time, i.e. you drive that way for a few minutes. however, i'm pretty sure your rev limiter will be within 100-200 rpm of the max rpm on the tach, ie btwn 6800-6900, although i'm not sure exactly where it is on the coupe.

same thing happened to me. I was on highway and wanted to merge into traffic (and put some speed ) so i held the auto stick about 2 sec to left which SUPPOSEDLY put the car in best "gear" without hitting rev limit BUT instead i saw the tech went well into red (didnt see what gear it was in b/c i freaked and immediately held back to right for 2 sec to go into D. the MB autoshift takes FOREVER to shft to next gear if u try to use the "manual mode" however the downshifts are pretty quick..........STILL like my tiptronic on A4 better (w/ GIAC shift chip) :o

Actually it was around 135 downhill...when I did it I fogot the car had a digital speedo also, so I was driving and looking at the gauge at the same time...somewhere a bit over 130 and a bit below 135.
