Looking to Buy C230 Coupe

Hey everyone...I'm new here and in the market to buy a C230 Sports Koupe....so far in my area I've found several listings for around $18k with < 38k miles on them yet an 02 with 57k miles for $13k. The information on these listings just has the usual package listings. Any advice on any particulars I should pay attention to ?

Thanks !

depends on a lot of things. one of the many and one of the most important i can think of depends on how you want the car to look. are you down to buy a bodykit if you buy the 02? i say this because the look of the older w203s arent that hot stock! or you can just save money and get lips with the 05+

I would say, save a little and get an 05
Many more nice features than the 02-04 models

Hmm. The particulars I would have paid attention to are:

1. If you are into more power/engine mods, look for an '02. The M111 has a few bolt-on mods that the M271 (MY 2003-2005) that give it more power for little cost.

2. If you are into music and want to install aftermarket sound and speakers, look for a car WITHOUT the BOSE sound system (marked on the speaker covers on the doors for easy reference). The BOSE system uses fiber optics to send audio signals to an amp, which makes installation of aftermarket parts all the more difficult.

3. I don't like the sunroof because of its design, so you may want to try it if you're only accustomed to standard sunroofs/moonroofs.

4. 05s have better suspension setups than the 04-03s, which have better setups than the 02s. Again, if you care.

Also, 2006 C230 coupes? They can fly. Like, in the sky. Unfortunately, they were not sold in the US, for obvious reasons. Happy hunting!

Theres nothing wrong with the stock look. If anything you should look for the C320 coupe. It's more mod friendly and has the V6.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've not decided yet if I want to do any aftermarket performance / body mods only because I lost ~$1200 in aftermarket performance in a car accident several years ago and am kind of hesitant on getting back into it.

jedcred, thanks for the info on the Bose system. I'm definitely going to have 2 12's and 2 1000 watt amps installed as well as upgrade the speakers, so I will have to keep this in mind.

How much are you asking for the headers?
Who makes them and what is the power gain?

2005 c230 coupe blk/blk
I would go with the 05' its a better car over all, search autotrader, recently bought mine for 19K with 16k miles blk/blk (no panoramic roof) in atlanta, and sold my c230 coupe 02, with 52k miles for 13k ( ext. warranty, panoramic roof)
Which ever you decide to go with is a great car.

c230 Sports Coupe
I love my C230 Coupe

I have a 2002 C230 sports coupe and love the car... going on 67k miles and here's why I love the car:

-great performance
-roomy (I'm 6'3" - I fit in this car and not others I was looking into)
-my mountain bike fits in (the entire bike! no kidding)
-my new kayak fits inside (a portable 13' kayak!)
-the cost (especially used! $14k-$18k - I got mine new just below $27k)
-roomy for guests - once in, fits 4 adults comfy
-z rated tires (got the 17" package)
-comes in manual (I got the auto, but really like the manual option)

Downfalls:

-since I love the z rated tires, I have to switch out the winter tires (I'm outside DC so we can get from 0 to 2 feet of snow each winter)
-since I have the z rated tires and winter tires, they lose tred quickly ($$$ - get the road hazard warrenty for the tires - z rated tires cost more)
-even though it fits 4 adults in a comfy manor, not really a car for daily 4 person driving... (which I don't do

If you want a good performance car w/ the hatchback room, this is a great car. I have the silver color - the glass roof and sunroof rock!

I think Merc made a great car - too bad it was discontinued in the US.

Agreed with above.
One other thing I might add as to the cons - the auto transmission. You can't manually play with it like you can on a GTI or Acura TL. Basically all you can manually do is downshift. If you accelerate hard and try shifting it manually it won't listen to you.
So if you have a chance get a stick. Unless you really need the 05 look (which was my case).

Benz doesn't sell it here cause of the falling dollar. They tell it to us that the demand for coupes is not here, that' BS. They sell the cars here for dollars and not euros. Does not make sense to export cheaper models into states. In Europe cars are much more expensive. I have a friend in Milan, Italy. He recently got a BMW 120 diesel. Cost him 28500 euros!!! That's 40K dollars

BTW, was recently at the dealer and it's confirmed - the new coupe is coming here. But again Mercedes is cutting corners - it will be only offered with the 2.5 from the 06-07 W203 models. New car - old engine, hence they will market it below 30K again
