Chip in windshield. ARG!

Insurance co. paid a local glass repair/replace biz to fix an approx. 1/8" chip w/ an associated crack about 1/2" long in the lower corner of the driver's side of my winshield. Now, I haven't seen one of these repairs before, but I was under the impression that the repair should be nearly invisible. My damage is just about as visible as before the repair. Am I expecting too much? If I got a ****ty first repair job, can someone remove the old epoxy and do it right this time or am I screwed?

thanks
Jim

The repair keeps the crack or chip from spreading. That's why insurance companies are willing to pay for the cost of repair--it saves them the cost of windshield replacement. There is minimal cosmetic improvement.

AAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

Sorry to hear that.

I don't think that they can make those disappear completely being a mulity layer windshields and all. All they can do is make it stop in their tracks so to speak. Let me know if you find out differently.

The only way to remove the chip completly, is to have the windshield replaced.

I would just talk to the insurance and tell them you want it replaced completly. all you pay is $100 deductible

Or if they say the chip is to small then crack your windsheild:p :p

Sure, the cost for repairing those chips is about 10-15 dls, versus a complete winshield!

I have had several repairs in my windshield's (several autos and vans) and so far the experience has been a good one. I can say the cracks that were fixed were almost gone unless you looked real good (and hard) at the windshield to find the repair.

When I had the front windshield replaced on my other car, I asked how much it would be for my C240. I was quoted $475 (if you have the rain sensor) installed for something they called premium glass, not Mercedes glass. Apparently, Mercedes glass is weak because its designed to break into those little square pieces so passengers won't be injured by the broken glass. They couldn't tell me if the glass was the same color as Mercedes glass, since I think I read somewhere that its tinted very slightly. If you decide to get the Mercedes glass instead you should be ready to catch it up the *** because you have to get it from the dealer.

But, Hey, my brothers Corvette has the speedometer display in the glass and it cost him a few dollars short of a grand to replace it. So I don't feel so bad.

usually its the owner that notices it after its been repaired. one of those things that you know are there and always looks at.
