Maintenance service A, B cost thread

I've searched and read through at least 15 different threads on this topic, but its' mixed in with a bunch of other crap. let's just make a simple thread in this format:

MERCEDES DEALERSHIPS:
Service A: $ ($128-250?)/location/loaner car yes or no?
Service B: $ ($400-600?)/location/loaner car yes or no?

I called up a few places in the Peninsula here in California:

Service A: $225 / San Francisco
Service B: $422.09 / San Francisco

Service A: $239 / Park Avenue Motors: Palo Alto
Service B: $439 / Park Avenue Motors: Palo Alto

Service A: $275 / Smyth European
Service B: $500 / Smyth European

PRIVATE CAR MECHANICS THAT SPECIALIZE IN MERCEDES:
???????

I'll be calling up a few other places the Bay Area to see what the prices are like there.

You also have to take into consideration there are expenses above and beyond the A or B service. Like haveing your brake fuid changed every 24 months, coolant change, etc...

nickgailloux, how did you get your quotes? This is right off my service records. Prices are $CAD after tax, and I tried to subtract "DIY" stuff they charged me for (like topping up my washer fluid )

Service A - May 2004 - $213 MB Broadway
Service B - April 2005 - $403 MB Broadway
Service A - March 2006 - $210 MB Boundary
Service B - February 2007 - $421 MB Boundary

Anyone have figures for the dealers in the Midwest? I need to get the B service in about 1,000 miles.

Is this something that a do-it-yourselfer can do?

Technically speaking, everything can be DIYed, especially Service A. The services are just changing some fluids and filters, and the instructions are all in that W203 sticky.

The only thing that i'm edgy about is what they do "outside" of those items (for example, lubricating the panorama roof). Not sure if everything they actually do is on the list in our manuals. Even then, I'm not even sure what kind of grease/supplies would be needed.

Can someone (maybe a MB tech) shed some light on this?

SteveL,

didn't you do the thread about the Morse pads? If you can do the brake pads, you can so do the oil change.

And just to start the flame war, I do all my oil changes by taking out the drain plug. Always have, always will.

Zoomie, I think a good thing for you to add to this thread is what they do in Service A and what is done in Service B. For the most part, they just change out the cabin filter in the B. However, I don't remeber what all the differances are. Phil was telling me, that some dealer wanted $100 to change his C230K sedan.

In response to your PM, I would change the tranny fluid when you hit say 90k, the differentail at 100k.

I called all the dealerships and asked them. I did this about 6-8 months ago. I would not be surprised at all if they've raised their prices since 2004 when you had your last service at Broadway.

No, look at my records, last one is Feb 2007. They might have given you a higher quote because most people may need stuff topped up as well, which adds a few bucks here and there. I always do that myself before bringing in the car.

Ah, thats probably it. Maybe the prices they quoted me are their best guess based on having to top up most fluids, like you say.

Thanks for the tip. Time to STFF for service B. Don't know exactly what they check for.

Yes, that will differ depending on the car.
We'd like strictly the prices of service A and B to get a standard or average of how much the service costs.

Thank you for the heads up and concern though.

It doesn't hurt to call. It won't take more than a few minutes.
Just ask for service dept and ask them straight up how much service A and B costs.

Schweet! Thanks. I'm hoping the Fletcher Jones in Fremont will do price matching. I work like 1 min away from it. It'll be a lot more convenient for me.

My car just came back from Service B in Vancouver, BC (Boundary Rd.)

Total came to $544.60 tax included for basic service (from what I could see from the bill they replaced 2 air filters, 1 oil filter? and a windshield wash)

$200 were for the parts and the rest was labour.

Also quoted me $400 for spark plugs and $300 for new battery.

Yes I can change my own oil, but I guess I should have asked what they actually do for a Service B that would require some special tool or diagostics that your average DIY'er wouldn't have. Sorry I was not more clear.
If it's nothing more than an oil change and some filters, I will surely do it myself and spend the extra $$ on something fun.

On a side note....is there a trick to reset the service lights like you can on BMW's with a paper clip?

William ... I love him, he's the best. Apart from getting my service B done, he also offered to replace both my airbags (due to damage from break-in) and provided me with a loaner vehicle free of charge even though I was out of warranty. Saved me about $1000+

I really don't mind paying a higher price for better service.
