no boost, limp mode?

did a search, only one worthless result.

on occassion my car appears to go into some kind of limp mode. if i restart the car it is fine so far. anyway, if this occurs i'll get a little boost with 1/8th throttle. however, any further on the throttle and there is no boost.

thoughts, suggestions, comments?

I suggest you buy or borrow a code reader, or have someone get the code. If it's P0702 and you have the original battery it could be simple. See my post at https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/234108-bad-battery-don-t-fooled.html.

Please let me know what you find.

I'll try this as my battery is suspect. However, I have no check engine lights, does that matter?

limp mode is just a term thrown around on the audi forums when the ecu diverts the boost from the engine; you're not getting any boost. maybe it is an official term, maybe not. however, the situation is applying to my c230 as stated in the first post.

I never had a check engine light - just the "lamp sensor" warning. When the transmission went into "limp", I had no light or dash warning.

And when I use the term "limp mode", I refer to the transmission safe mode where the electronic shifting is inop. I'm not talking about boost. My C240 has no turbo, no boost.

Consider replacing your battery before spending time & money on your other problem. I installed the Autozone Duralast 49-DL at $85 (850 CCA and 1000 CA). After I removed the battery hold-down bracket, I clipped my battery charger positive to the aux post and gounded it to the strut mount, and then removed the original battery. Installed new battery, then removed charger. Absolutely no memory lost and no resets were required, and the transmission and lamp sensor issues were gone.

awesome, i'll make sure i have a battery charger or equivalent present when i swap out the battery. more than likely, i'll just connect jumper cables to my other car and the terminals of my c230. my tranny is manual so that probably strays further from comparing my "limp" mode to yours. either way, my battery has my attention.

Just to clarify, "Limp Home Mode" is an official term used by MB where the car is limited to first and second gear and essentially less than 30 mph so that you can "limp home." This can be caused by engine misfires and the like, among other things.

check your intercooler pump. its a known issue on the c32's. When the intercooler pump stops working, it causes the supercharger to overheat and disengage. Putting your car in a limp mode and making it feel like 100hp grocery cart, to protect the supercharger.

I think you're going to need some diag time on the star system.
I had something like that happen.
The....don't know what it's called, but it's a valve that control the
flow from the SC. Mine got stuck from sticky oil in ITG filter.
Felt like it had no power.
Same effect can be had from thne intercooler hose coming loose, or
the gasket between the oil catch thing and the throttle body

thanks for the replies. mig888, i'm going in saturday morning for the recall i'll ask to have my coils checked out then. is there anything i should say specifically?

c230 sport coup, i think it is the diverter valve you're talking about getting stuck due to the itg filter. it diverts boost away from the engine when it is not needed to improve gas mileage. it is definately a possibility, but i don't think restarting my vehicle would alleviate this issue. however, i'm definitely not going to cross it off my list.
