Why don't MB put the 3 dimensional star on the hood of the Coupe I wonder.

I guess they felt it was old fashioned. I would like the option to have it put on. It's a classy addition!

They generally do it on their sportier models, and are attempting to brand the ccoupe as one of them.

Also, I'm sure that they viewed the hood emblem as too fuddy-duddy for the younger market that they're going for. But, to correct some of you kiddies, their target market was more 30-40 somethings (women particularly) than 20 somethings. I'm sure that they're surprised at how much attention they're getting from the younger crowd.

BTW: this really doesn't need a ccoupe-bashing post from the slk weenie.

Ehhh, pardon me, but what's the difference between the star-grille and the CL-type? Is it he chrome-strip around it (the star-grille)?

Backing up what tommy said, the upright stars are generally found on the sedans (CLK excepted) while the flat hood badges are generally a "2-door coupe" standard.

Not sure this poll will tell us anything, because the C-Coupes ALL come with the star grille as standard, while the sedans ALL come with the upright star hood ornament. If I were to vote that my sedan has "no star at all" it would get lost among all the Coupe posters who have "no upright star" as standard to begin with...

Maybe the poll should have been - how may sedan owners changed their hood ornaments - from upright to flat hood star? I am one of them who installed the flat hood star - makes the car look a little more sportier. I dont know if the CL type grill would make a big difference - well there's another poll, huh? Or would a C-coupe owner want the upright star hood ornament?

shtatc, I agree. I have the flat badge on my sedan, too. IMO, If you install a star grille, the flat badge is a mandatory change, too.

The front end of the car looks way overdone if you have the crosshairs and the CL style grill; this is why a car won't look right if you have a CL style grill without a flat badge .

I plan on getting a CL style grill and flat hood emblem on my C32 when it arrives.

Unhappy Sport grille problem

Yesterday when I was trying to install the star grille a problem occured. None of the 6 screws were able to fit the star grille. The holes on star grille are too big. I checked my OEM grille and see there are some kind of metal clamp over those holes and it was drilled with a smaller bit in order for those screws to fit. I'm wondering if anyone know where I can purchase those metal clamps?
Thankyou

They are called 'tineman'(spelling might be wrong) clips and can be found at pep boys or car stereo shops. They are used to provide threads in weaker materials like door panels and plastic.

thanks for answering guys
I'll go check pep boys later, I tried getting the clamp out with a screw driver but afraid I might break the plastic grille.

No, it can't. The nose of the coupe slope back at a greater angle and the entire grille on the sedan is attached to the hood.

Which grille do you prefer?

Which grille do you prefer? I cut this pic from a thread since I don't have a digital camera to take a pic of my own c240. The one on the left has the complete grille slats blacked out. The middle one has only the small vertical slats above and below the star blacked out. The right is stock sport grille. The original pic had the stand-up star which I took out. My grille currently looks like the one on the left.
