Detailing the Engine

Several highly respected members have complimented on how clean my 5 year/60,000 mile-old engine and its compartment look. It is really easy to do, if that’s your thing. For as much as I’d like to take credit for it, it wasn’t mine. However, I am never too proud to ‘borrow’ another man’s good idea.

From a fellow MB enthusiast: http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_detail.html

Quick, cheap, and easy…it works.

What's worked really well for me is Meguiars Hyperdressing but it's not sold to the public, you have to go online as it's their detailer line. There's a place in Arizona that sells smaller bottles, like 32oz for about $10 or so. I only do that stuff when I'm ready to sell, nothing makes your car look like you were meticulous on maintenance than to have a shiny engine bay.

Bob Downey's West Whittier Paint Company sells the entire Detailers line. I think hyper dressing is about 20 a gallon. They sell to anyone with money. Near the 605 on Whittier Blvd, easy to find for anyone in the LA/OC area.

I usually use my interior QD by Mequiars and it always worked, but my engine is not as clean as the one in the link

nibo83, what do you use for your windows?! In that sig. picture they look just as reflective as the paint on the car. What do you use when you detail?

Tire dressing for engine detail is definitely a good idea. Not only does it clean and leave parts shinny but it makes it easier to remove dirt off your engine compartment the next time you clean it.

That's pretty cool. I always carry a can in my trunk. Gonna try this later on.

Does this leave a coating on like No Touch? Seems that's the best option.

I think clean untinted windows always make that reflective and I'm going to miss that reflective since my windows are tinted pretty dark now

I use microfiber towels to dry my windows and the whole car inside outside, these towels really help and easy/fun to use

For my paint, I've been using Poorboy's wax and sealant in the last 2 years and usually did the waxing before and after winter time. PLUS, I always QDed (QuickDetail) my paint after every car wash with Zaino 6 & Zaino 8 ( Only for special occasions in my case) and these bottles really make your paint glossy. You should try them

To be honest, you shouldn't always trust what you see in the pictures because it might look shiny, clean and all that in pictures, but in person, you might find many imperfections LOL

For my car, I have PLENTY stone chips on my hood and front bumper and many light scratches all over my car, but my car is clean and the shine that you see is true

DO NOT USE SIMPLE GREEN ON YOUR ENGINE!

It is corrosive to aluminum, which most of the parts on MB engines are aluminum. I recommend a citrus based all purpose cleaner like P21S Total Auto Wash

For an engine detail, use P21s Total Auto Wash followed by Chemical Guys Fade2Black.
