I know the factory installed changer is $400 on the 2003's. Has anyone been able to get their local MB dealer to give them the same deal. My local dealer wanted $995 to put it in last year. I have not got around to finding out if they have lowered their price since then.

I don't think you can get it that cheap at the dealer. Their cost is more than that, then you have to pay installation. I got employee price and still paid more than that, not including installation.

Dealer installed prices have not changed. A local stereo store told me yesterday that there is now a little box available which allows an Alpine M-bus changer to the attached to and controlled by the stock head unit. I didn't get details because that wasn't why I was in the store. You might want to check with an Alpine dealer, and I don't mean a big box electronics store.

My local stereo shop (www.customcarstereo.com) quoted $150 to install the changer (I think you can buy one online for abour $300-350 right?). So you're looking at about $450 to 500 max which is not too bad.

That is still too much to install it. Fifity to seventy-five is better, but still a good profit to the shop. I watched the headunit in my coupe get swapped out in seven minutes.

Will this let me install the mp3 cd changer by Alpine without having to get their AiNet controller?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. He said it was for M-bus, but he didn't say anything about AI-Net.

OMG! Are you kidding? That's a ripoff!

Get the changer from Autoclass, and install it yourself. I did. Its seriously that simple. Following the instructions posted on the boards it took me just over an hour.

BTW, put painters masking tape on the ash tray door at the corners, it will prevent the tabs from scratching your metal trim.

oh i know they're expensive but if u check out the site they do custom stereo on Bentleys and Ferraris (they can match factory fabric/color for sub boxes etc). It was overkill to go to a shop like that but they knew what they were doing...

if you buy the alpine mp3 changer (CHA-S634), you will need no box to connect it to your HU, since they both use Ai-Net

You'd still need a Ai-Net controller though. Good thing is, they're pretty small.
