C32 Amg Engine In C240

One of the people that work for me has a dealer's licenes, I have the opportunity to purchase a C32 AMG engine with 9,000 mile that came out of a 2002 that was totaled out for $2,500. Will this C32 AMG engine fit into my 01 C240?

Sure it will fit.

That's a good price. The going rate for a used C320 (not C32)engine is around $3500 to $4000.

wow, even the $3500 price sounds good. where can you get these engines from and is there any necessary work to be done on them or are the all in good working order?

Based on the engine alone is a very attractive price. But mind you, if the car was totalled, the engine should suffer a great deal of damage, otherwise, it wouldnt be declared "totalled". You might find yourself paying a hefty price trying to fix everything right, MB parts are not cheap.

Also, if you have such a powerful engine, you might want to change the suspension, wheels, brakes to get everything in sync. The final total for this upgrade can be very expensive!! If you think its worth it, do it, but I would think twice!

i think putting C32 in C240 will require tranny modification as well as I dont think the C240 tranny can handle the hp/torque of C32 engine (possibly different ECU as well).

I saw the car, it was hit in the rear and side. there is no damage from the rear doors forward, no engine damage. I am not intrested in the transmission but if I have to get it then maybe I will. If the engine will fit without any major modification then I will get it this weekend. My 01 C240 has only 12,000 miles so I would keep the C23 AMG engine in my garage for at least another year or so or until my warranty runs out. What do you guys think?

The automatics transmissions are essentially the same - only slightly different gear ratios and AMG-specific software. If you have a manual it should be able to handle the added torque as well.

Cheers, BT

Your looking at transmission. Engine. And ecu. also some other mods like radiator and intercooler. But its a good project and i say go for it. If the car is salvaged then i say get everything that you would need. Including transmission and ecu and everything.

Good Luck let us know how it goes

I would say the electronics would be the biggest problem. I imagine it would be very hard to get all the electronics working correctly by changing the engine. Your car's computers would be going crazy because so many things are not as they are supposed to be. And good luck finding a dealer to help you with the computer work. Sure, you would be paying them. But they might still not be interested in getting involved in figuring out the mess that you have created.

C32 in a 240?

Wow, what a great price if it's OK, and it sounds like it should be. You couldn't buy that kind of HP increase and reliability (one piece crank!) for anywhere near that price. I think you will only need to do a software change as long as you take all the needed hardware. The differential ratios are different but you could change that too. The manual will work but probably cannot handle the power.

That's an absolute steal.

Buy it. If nothing else you can sell it to someone who wants to take the time and shove it in there C-Class. For any C-Coupe owners...such an engine would be the uptimate 'put up or shut up' racing accessory Especially with the 1.8 being limited on upgrades at the moment. Kleemans 300HP Lysholm 'upgrade' will even cost more. What's to think about? Make sure you get the ECU, all the harnesses, motor mounts, etc....that little crap can add up.

In the C240, it would be one helluva sleeper. I'd even leave the damn C240 badges on it....muwhahahahha!

tell brabuscclass i know he'll do it. ouch, what a price difference from his kleeman supercharger. then again, he could always sell it for half the price and still get the amg engine.

if it's doable, go for it.

Yup make sure the engine is in good condition (no cracks, no malfunctions). If that's the case go for it. For a few grand you get to have a car that performs as well as another that's $20k-$30k more!

The engine is in prefect shape, the car still runs and drives despite the rear end and side damage. I will let you know what I decide to do. I never thought about buying the ECU, wiring harness, motor mounts ect. I will see what the asking price for the entire car is.

If the idea of getting the ECU and wiring harness never even crossed your mind, I'd recommend getting someone involved (who knows what they are doing) to help you out with this potential project.

Cool! You can part it out...I'll take the climatronic unit if its in good shape

ECU and harness' are essentials. The cost of buying that stuff from the dealer will scrub the deal in a hurry. You may wish to consult some of the MB tuners on this board about weather the C32 ECU is viable with your manual trans. Fortunately, going to auto from manual is much easier than going the otherway around.

Good luck! Sounds like a really fun project, for super cheap dinero!!!

I have been wondering about this for a while, is this project actually happening or not, what ever happened to the engine?

Hope, not only you'll need the motor...

I never thought about buying the ECU, wiring harness, motor mounts ect. I will see what the asking price for the entire car is.
You'll need the all the parts plus the liquid to air intercooler parts too. Which means get the entire front clip, strip out what you need and sell the rest of it to us in the forum for parts to recover some of your costs. It won't work right without either one of these components. The ECU has a different programming, wire harness definetly, the tranny is a beefed up AMG unit with AMG software that has a much more agressive shift programming. Finally, someone with the factory compatable diagnostic computer to get everything to work right. The bare motor won't work without the above mentioned put together.
