Some backyard tuning shops don't know what they are doing by raising the rev limit, or worse, deleting the rev limiter altogether.
Friend of mine destroyed a Toyota "Twin Cam 16" 4AGE engine by doing that. You could safely rev the 4AGE engine to 9000rpm with modified valvetrain - but no ways standard.
