Personally, if it is possible. I'd like to see them do a C55 AMG with 4matic. :-)
I think the C55 as a 4matic would be great. Let's hope that Mercedes will offer it, and it will be free 'upon request" like it is on the E and the S Classes.

I do believe that the only time MB offered the 4-matic in conjunction with the sport package was in MY03 on the W203s. Thereafter it was no longer offered for reasons only known to MB. One theory I read on here was in regards to the tire choice.

i dunno, i think i'd rather get the s4 if i wanted a v8 powered sport sedan with all wheel drive. quattro is better than 4-matic, you have to admit. i don't think a c55 with 4-matic would sell as well as the s4. just my .02, but a great idea nonetheless. the c55 is a damn hot car.

just to clarify...

i just would want to add the AMG trim, not suspension. i assume this trim could be purchased in the aftermarket and installed. if thats correct, i would wonder why MB wouldnt accomodate same on special order?
and if anyone has done this with MB, please chime in! thanks.

Nas,
We owned an 01 ML320 until we got our 04 C320 4Matic in March. Some snow/ice persisted (here in Alaska) and our preliminary C-Class winter traction report is favorable. We'll have more data soon. Our home is a couple of miles off the paved road and have a mountain "pass" which is a good traction test. We do notice the reduced ground clearance. We're shopping for snow tires and will likely change from the all season Michelin Energy's.
The C is very quick.... and smooth. The acceleration does not feel or sound as strong as it is. This is the best handling automobile I've owned.

C320 - Sport
I have a C320 (not 4wd) and have driven the ML320, the C is considerably faster. The ML is very big (and heavy) for a 3.2L engine. Having said that the 320 is a fabulous engine. Don't compare engines on just peak horsepower and torque, you need to actually look at the power curves. The reason that the mercedes engine feels so great is because it's power is usable (even though less)! If you look at the curves this engine produces peak torque from about 3000 to 4500 RPM, flat. Most other engines have to be a very specific (and high) rev. to produce it's maximum torque.

I live in Chicago and we occasionally get some snow here. During the winter I put on snow tires (Blizzak LM-22's) and the car is remarkably good in snow!

Do check out the 2005's though, great interior and exterior changes (IMHO).

I've got an ML and a C230. The ML has done great with the stock tires. I had to put snow tires on the C (with my stock rims) this last winter to get to work. I didn't have any problems sliding at all. Great car, and it's RWD. Clearance wasn't a problem, but we only had about 6 inches. You can't go wrong, 4Matic or non.

'05 C240 4MATIC

Ok guys, I got the '05 C240 4MATIC as a loaner today and I must say that I am impressed. I have driven 240's in the past, but never a 4MATIC. This model seems to have a little more juice than the ones I have driven before. The '05 layout is impressive IMO. I was wondering if anyone knows if the new rearview mirror with the ambient lighting can be retrofitted into the older C's. The only difference in the ambient lighting and that is an awesome effect. Most of you probably already know all of these details, but this was the first '05 that I have had the chance to spend any time with. Unlimited mileage is a great thing, I have been out in it all night and I think I put on 100 miles, taking it to a whopping 600 miles. Let me know if anyone knows anything about the mirror.

If you have auto-dimming mirrors in your car - then no, retrofitting is not possible. The reason is that "old" style mirrors have 2 light sensors (one in the housing facing forward; the other one on the mirror itself facing backward) that control the dimming, whereas newer models have a single light sensor combined with the rain sensor. It is located at the top of the windschreen, right behind the mirror.
If your car does not have the autodimming feature, then mirror retrofitting seems doable.

I have auto-dimming and rain sensor now. Oh well....The ambient lighting is a nice add-on, maybe there is another way to do it. The puddle lights on the new model are nice as well.

2003 C240 4matic
I can't compare it with the regular C240, but my 2003 C240 4MATIC handles great and has more power than I thought it would from the specifications.

I think that's $11,000 UK pounds, not $11,000 US dollars because the seller is in the UK.

it probably has a salvage title. since the mileage is so low, it probably was flooded.

Does 2005 C240 4MATIC have enough power?

Hello everyone,

All of you who own a 2005 C240 4Matic (or earlier models if they have same power) and others who have experienced it, do you think it has enough power. It only has 168hp. I live in Canada and it being a cold country, I am interested in a 4Matic so C230K is not an option but it has a more powerful engine. C320 4Matic is more expensive.

Any other comments on C240 vs C320 are welcome.

Thanks
Vivek

judging on the few C240(non-4matic) loaner cars at our dealership that we have had, it is underpowered, but has enough power for around town. The car has to be pretty much floored on the freeway if you want any kind of passing power, and with 4matic this would even be more labored because of the extra weight....I'd say go with the 320 4-matic, you'll definitely be happier
