Strange my Coupe gets 32MPH on the highway with all highway driving and 26 MPG mixed driving with my wife and about 23-24 MPG mixed with me. Of course I have a heavier right foot than the wife!

i think it's just a tad slower than the 330i. however, it is also a little bit noisier so it seems faster than the bimmer. I really love the way the car handle. it is nimble and solid.

My E320 is a solid, well built cruiser.....generally I take it on long trips and it does quite well. I've only had one real issue...the rear window regulators both screwed up on me. Other than that..it's a fine German automobile. I picked it up tonight, B Service complete @ 40k miles and it's as good as the day I bought it.

My coupe also gets great milage...both around town and on the highway. But it's a totally different car and driving experience. I was trying to get an SLK loaner lined up for when I bring my coupe in for it's second B service (probably Jan/Feb)...but they wouldn't commit to it. <sigh>

2003 C240 4matic
I have a 2003 240 4Matic and find the performance is very adequate. Much better than I would expect from its rated HP/torque. I think the automatic has to get use to your driving habits for best performance. I previously owned a 2001 Audi S4 tiptronic which is faster than the Mercedes 320 and expected to be less satisfied than I am.

I agree that gas mileage could be better, but I get about 27mpg in highway cruising. I bought the 240 rather than the 320 because I felt the added performance from the 320 was not worth the increase in price. I have not had any reason to question that decision. I love the handling/ride combination of the C Class.

looking for accessories '05 C320 4MATIC

We just recently purchased a silver 2005 C320 4 matic. I would like to install a speed grille insert in the lower bumper valance so it looks a little more like the sport or AMG model, also I would like clear bumper turn signal lenses. Any idea on where I can start.

Ebay is a good source for the bumper turn signal lenses.... I purchased mine off of ebay and they work great.... I actually have mine if you want them... Free of charge....just send shipping.... I have them lying around somewhere.... When i traded in my C230 K SS, and upgraded to the CLK500 i took them off and now they are just lying around somewhere...... give me a few days to look for them. As for the lower bumper valance, I really don't know what you are talking about.... If you want to get the AMG look, you will have to change out the whole bumper set up.... There are no grille inserts that you can add to you car.....

I just want to clip out the louvered vents in the front bumper, and install a grill insert. They make them for almost every car, but I cant seem to find them for a mercedes.

You will have to buy the WHOLE AMG bumper for that or have some custom fabrication done to your car for that......

safe to buy a C240 4MATIC???

I was thinking of getting a used, say 2002 or newer c240 4matic.
But with all the complaints I see left and right about the c-class,
it scares me.
Is the c-class as reliable as a vw, toyo or honda?
What would be a reasonable price to pay for an 02 or 03 c240 4matic?
thanks!

Not sure this helps (as I see you are looking for an '02 - '04, but I have had absolutely no issues with my C240S4 (~ 10K miles - delivery taken in July '04). Initial quality is greatly improved....

Reliability is what it is. Because electronically, these cars have so much more than the ones you mention, they will have more problems. I think the important thing in buying a used car is to ensure that the previous owner(s) maintained the car correctly.

As for the C240 4matic, I don't think they produced this car in the US in 2002. Not sure about the later years.

300C looks too gangsta, especially w/ those chrome bling*bling wheels! IMHO, the Magnum looks sportier and can carry alot of stuff (i.e., sporty, yet practical)!

yeap big and fast.

well i know your being sarcastic but they are getting there 5,000 dealer markup on the car right now so i think its pretty generous to charge me msrp.

big and fast is right right 425hp 420 tq but its also heavy 4200 ibs. to me its the best american copy of an e55 for a awesome price. i love the styling and only 5,000-10000 to be made a year thats also pretty nice for 45 gs

4MATIC vs. RWD: How do they compare?

As some here may know, I am contemplating a C350 to replace my '02 BMW 530. After 4 Bimmers I thought I'd stick with them, but the new ones are just too fugly for belief and the E class vastly overpriced. From what I can see the C350 will have just about the same performace as the heavier E500 -at a 20K discount.
In any event, part of the reason I am considering a switch is the desire for AWD, as my car, even w/ dedicated snow tires, still stinks in the snow on all the hills in my area.
My questions are thus: How do cars w/ 4matic compare to standard RWD models in terms of handling, speed (0-60, passing power, 1/4 mile, etc) and general performance? Yes, I see there is a very slight weight penalty, but not too much else.
Comments? Thoughts?

You really need to watch that Mitsubushi commercial on TV. It does a nice job showing and explaining the different drivetrain configurations. :p

My wife was in the same situation as you. She had a Grand Prix GTP, it was front wheel drive and stunk in the snow. Iwanted an E class, but way too much for me. So we bought a 2005 C320 4 matic 2 months ago. The car handles like a sports car on bare pavement in any weather, no matter how much ice or snow. It is unbeleivable actually. The downfall with the 4 matic versus a rear wheel drive is with the 4 matic you only get the luxury package, with the rear wheel drive you can get a sport which has nicer wheels, better brakes and brushed alum. trim as oppossed to wood trim. I ordered ASA (AMG lookalike wheels) and painted the brake calipers to make up for it. If you have any snow get the AWD!

the main difference is obvious. but a car with 4matic is heavier and wastes more gas and you can't get a sport package with it (which sux *****). The general performance is just slightly less than a rwd but unless your a CONNOISSEURof cars, the difference is negligible. also, the push feeling you get with rwd isn't as apparent in 4matic version.

C350, as the other models just don't have nearly enough power. I actually prefer the wood trim, especially with the stone interior. I wouldn't mind the sport suspension, but its N/A with 4matic. Also N/A is the 7 speed transmission.
What I would likely do is keep the stock 16" wheels for winter use & get some Dunlop Sport M3 snow tires. I'd then get 17" wheels tires (possibly the same ASA AMG look alikes) and summer tires for the restr of the year. At this point I just need to see a 350 and drive it. Really liked the E500, but (to me) its just not worth an additional 15-20K. Its nice, but not THAT nice!

4MATIC Lowering

AGAIN.

Hey. I was wondering if anyone had any luck lowering a 4matic. One of the forum members, Vraa, ricky.agrawal, mentioned that Renntech springs might work. Any experience with these? Anything will be appreciated.
