The reason for changing the magnets is that they have been redesigned to obviate trouble.

Glyn,
Quick question for you. I changed all the CAM magnets and AIR FILTER and CABIN FILTER. When I started the car, it was pretty rough and then it leveled out and ran smoothly. There was a fowl rotten egg smell that came out of the exhaust too. I took it for a test run and the car felt good. That was Sunday. On Monday, I drove a total of 60 miles to and from work, and the car felt good then too. This morning, Tuesday, I started the car, put it in reverse and the car started revving on it's own from about 1 to 12 RPM. It had a certain rhythm to it. vrooom... vrooom... vroom. I put the car in park and the back in reverse and all was good. What was that all about? it was about 47F degrees outside.

Just check that everything you touched is sound & plugged in properly & no damaged vacuum hoses.

The link I posted absolutely is for the W203 M272 engine. But, you have to remember the magnets are used on a number of different engines. So just select any of them. Part number is all the matters.

Okay, so I checked everything and I noticed that one of the hoses was not in all the way. It is the middle rubber hose that feeds into the Air Filter housing, not the mesh like ones on either side. Make sense? Anyway, on cold start ups (in the morning), it started doing this weird revving when I put it in reverse. It's almost as if someone is stepping on the gas peddle and revving it. Then in less than 30 seconds it goes away. It never did this until after I changed the the CABIN FILTER, AIR FILTER AND CAM MAGNETS. What can this possibly be?
Also, the CEL is still on. It never went off after a week of driving over 100 miles. I am going to purchase the OBD2 scanner, but I have to tell you, this latest issue is pissing me off. When will this car drive free of issues. it only has 50,000 miles on it. HELP!
Thanks!
Shaun

Cancel codes with a scanner.
RU sure that the aircleaner housing is properly clipped down over the MAF inlet? You've got something minor wrong.

+1. Not sure WTH the rolling of the eyes is. This thread contains every piece of information you could possibly need on the magnet issue, and you, PCY, and I continue to spoon feed posters the information that is already posted in this thread, if they read it in it's entirety. Then we get this

Hahaha, I guess I should have taken my own advice that I have given in this thread, that if you get one of the codes for camshaft position to replace all 4 magnets, because eventually the others will likely give problems. Guess what I found on DAS this morning: ![rolf](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/rofl.gif)

2 more magnets ordered from Parts.com. Had 1 spare in the glovebox. I am going to replace the other 2 while I am at it.

Once again, Glyn, you have not failed me. You have become my Obi-Wan- Kenobi on this forum. Yesterday, I started the car up after work and yes, it did that revving thing again. I got home changed my clothes, popped the hood and guess what? There was a gap between the MAF inlet (flash light helps). I detached it and reattached it, being sure to push down on the back, right over the MAF inlet. This morning I started the car up and put it in reverse and NO PROBLEM. It ran as smooth as a babies ****. I am purchasing the OBD2 scanner today, as I have to clear the CEL before I get my emissions test. If they see the CEL on, it will not pass and I can't renew my tags. Anyway, a little TMI. Once again, thanks...

We seem to be winning. The MAF battles to settle down with post filter air leaks. Let us know how it is after a few days. It is critical you make sure the cleaner is sealing on the MAF. You don't want the engine ingesting unfiltered air. You will be happy with your 3130.

Yeah, the 3130 is actually being delivered today. Funny thing is, I got in the car this morning, drove up the block, looked down and the CEL was off. I drove a whole 30 miles and it did not come back on. Also, the car drives real smooth and the gas mileage is better. Thanks a bunch! Your advice has been on point.
Next up:
1. Bleed brakes
2. Change wipers
3. Transmission flush - Should I leave this to a professional?
4. New rear tires
5. (4) Wheel alignment
6. SAS - replacement if wheel alignment does not help the ESP MALFUNCTION message
I'll keep you posted as I get through this list...
