Cracked my rim on the freeway.
I was driving from San Francisco to Saratoga (San Jose area) on highway 280 and a car in front of me must have hit an object... I ran over it and it slammed under my car.
I thought nothing of it, but my tire went flat a few days later.
So I go down to Rolling Stock on Mission Street, and they want $165 to fix the hairline crack on the 'inside' part of the rim, so appearance is of no account.
My question to the forum: Is this a fair price?
I think it is a little too much, and I am thinking of just taking back my rim, since they have it, and going somewhere else.
If $165 is a fair price to fix a 1 inch hairline crack on the inside of the C7 rim, then I will be happy.
Thanks,

those cracks will eventually happen again even after you weld it. my suggestion is to replace the rim. check the classifieds. there are tons of people selling 17" or 18" at good prices.

Try duct tape. It will last a long time. It is very durable. It should do the trick. Clean the surface first. I would use acetone or mineral spirits, to remove all the crud first.

No, no, for wheels you really shoud use JB Weld instead of duct tape.
$165 for a wheel weld isn't bad, but like FrankW said, there's no way to know if it'll hold, for how long, and if there's other damage to that wheel.

Welding aluminum can be tricky. Takes a skilled welder with past experience working with alum in order to be done properly. $165 seems steep to me since the shop I found that repairs wheels only charges 50-100 depending on the amount of damage. I have seen c7 wheels go for 200 bucks a pop in the past so why not just pick one up for only 35 more and call it a day? Good luck.
