I Hit A Deer.....

Yeah, on the way to the bar to watch the red wings game, not even a mile away from my house I see bambi running across the street I break and swerve a bit and I nail it...I first thought my headlights were GONE, but no they were still on...So that was ok because I wouldnt need to get new BIX...I pull over to a lighted parking lot and I check everything out and too my amazement there was only a bunch of hair on my car nothing else. On the way back home after the game I check and I notice my grill is cracked...I knew I wouldnt be that lucky to not have any damage at all..Now what I am wondering is how much does an OEM grill cost at the stealership? I cant be riding around in a beat up benz. lol

you're fortunate to be ok. Buy the grill with a smile that you have another day to live. I've hit two deer at once, one of the times I hit a deer, and I wasnt hurt but glass flying in your face is no fun.

See...And people laugh that I want to install a "Deer / Animal Alert" that sends out a 20 kHz warning...

A grille should be nothing compared to what could have happened...Grille looks to be about $120.00.

Glad you are okay!

You should be able to get an OEM grill for around $60

lmfaooo! You're right it coulda been worse, but I dont think a deer could fit in the small back seat of my C. So i called the dealer, and they want 179 for the grill

Well, we only doubt that it'd matter. Animals have no idea. They're as likely to stand there and wonder, "What's that noise?" as they are to run into the roadway thinking the noise is from the woods (where their predators generally lurk). I dispatch two of California's mostly-rural counties (Amador and Calaveras, as well as San Joaquin) and the deer hits we hear about (either from the victim, or from someone reporting a deer carcass in the roadway) probably averages two a day. Statewide, the number's stupid big per year, and when I heard it I was shocked to think there were even that many of the damned meatbarrels-on-stilts living in the State; something in the hundreds of thousands.
At night, animals will run from the shoulder into the roadway because of how the shadows are manipulated by passing headlights: The shadows get larger and seem to loom in a direction straight toward the light source as they move.
When you factor-in that neither shrieking automotive air horns nor bellowing diesel horns will always get a damned animal to move, the idea of anything short of a Vulcan minigun doing much for you is very iffy. And you can hardly pack the amount of ammo you'll need into a reasonably-sized road car. It just gets used up so quickly.
My first crash was with a deer. I hate the damned things almost as much as I enjoy driving in the woods. It sucks.

But at least we don't have moose here.

I can not disagree with the unpredictable and almost inherently dangerous patterns animals will give...But I'll give anything a try if could will help. I have found a number of DEC reports stating this is one of the only options that may help...

At my uncles collision shop it is a clean 50% to 50% of deer accidents with and without air driven "deer alarms"...

I hate to tell you this, but these deer whistles are a scam. They don't do a damn thing. One study not only came to the conclusion that they do nothing, but went on to say that it might even attract a deer.

Are you referring to the 12 volt ultra sonic ones? Do you have any quantitative research on this?

Thanks,
Jake
