Removing the steering wheel

I am aware it is always normally safe practice to disconnect the battery before removing airbags but do I reallly have to do it when taking the steering wheel bag out. (going to replace turn signal switch) I just want to avoid all the bs of disconnecting the battery... setting dtcs/losing memroy settings/risking the sam and I know putting a voltage regulator on it will defeat the purpose.

Per Bif powell “…Disconnecting the airbag and reconnecting it is fine as long as the key is out of the ignition. As paranoid as I am, I didn't disconnect the negative battery lead as recommended by my shop, but I did establish visual contact with my keys at key moments in the procedure…” from his thread..https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/139782-w203-steering-wheel-swap-how.html

My turn signal switch is too funky. Would you kindly share a DIY of your procedure? TIA.

just don't put the key in the ignition when you remove the airbag. otherwise you will get a SRS airbag warning only the dealership can clear.

Same here. If it's not too hard to get to I'd like to remove/clean/lube the stalk.
