Painted door handles C230K

Hi Guys and Gals,
My c230k is in for Service A and a few minor things, ESP/BAS and Check Engine messages. I had my service rep look into replacing my stock black door handles with the painted handles that come with the C7 option. The parts department told him that the handles as shipped from Germany are black and that I have to take them to a paint shop and have them painted. My rep called MB to confirm if this is correct and was told it was. Now, in all the talk we've had here on C7 handles and the few folks who have had their stock handles changed for painted ones, I never realized that the handles did not come painted from the factory. Have others had to take the black handles to a paint shop, have them painted and then have their dealer install them? That just doesn't sound right to me. Way more trouble then its worth to me just to not have wax smudges on my door handles. Maybe some MB dealerships have body/paint shops inhouse and mine doesn't? Thanks for any info or comments.

Hi Young,
Thanks, I got the message. I'll follow up. I'm picking my car up tomorrow morning so I'll be able to get more info from my rep. It seems silly to buy black handles to replace black handles that are already on the car. I guess I could tell them to take off the existing ones, paint 'em and put 'em back on.

that is not true, you can buy the handles pre painted from the dealership. I purchased mine from MB of Manhattan.(they are corparate owned) If you want to call and confirm I purchased mine from Juan 212-629-1433. It is 4 pieces, 2 handles and 2 caps(piece that surronds the lock cylinder)

Paint them

If you are unable to buy them painted (my MB dealer told me they only come in black), I can send you painted ones. We have several black ones in stock, provide me with your paint code, and allow for 2 days plus shipping and I will ship them out. There is a core charge, though when you recieve the new ones, install them, and send the old ones back I will refund that core charge.

The instalation is not as difficult as some make it seem, if you take your time and do it step by step, you will get it done in no time. Also if you have any questions I will provide you with our shop phone number, and be glad to walk/ talk you through any part of the install. Or if you live in CA drive on by and we will install them for you.

Sorry for bringin up this old topic, but i recently went to the dealer to ask them to get silver door handles for my C230 and they told me they would have to re key the whole door, and that would cost a lot of money. They said it was not the Infra red, but the LOCK on the driver side door (so if your battery ever dies you can't get into the car)... Is this true? I've been aching to get those door handles painted or changed. so if someone could tell me if anyone painted them i'd even be willing to do that Thanks

No! You don't need to buy the lock cylinder at all. Just get the plastic caps from them and insert the cylinder of your car. I had a thread about how to remove the door handles somewhere...

I painted the door handles myself for $20 and the paint hasn't fallen off yet.

Are you able to get silver door handles? And where are you in SoCal? May I ask what would the price be including installation and all?

Thanks a lot.

If you have painting experience, it shouldn't be hard - make sure you get quality paint tough! Otherwise, it's wise to buy prepainted ones from the dealer.

Same here, celebrating 2 years in a little while. My car is already black so it's not a big deal to go from dull black to shiny black but I do whish they had a C7 option 2 years ago.

I got the first C7 car sold by my dealer. When I went to pick it up, the salesmen were standing around the car checking it out. Now 80% of their inventory has it, and next year all coupes will have it.

I didn't notice the C7 and my dealer did not point it out when I ordered the car. That night I read through the brochure and noticed the small picture with the C7 package...I called up 10:01am the next day and told them to add it to the order. I wanted the Xenons as well, but they were not available even though it was in the brochure...I would have needed to wait another 3-4 more months.
