W203/CL203 Aftermarket Wheel Thread - All you want to know
#2179
Do i need new lug bolts for Aftermarket wheels?
Before I get started just want to wish Merry Xmas to everyone. Few weeks ago I cracked one of my factory C7 wheels going over a pothole. I was in a hurry and I took it to my friend's gas station nearby and without knowing any better about using the shorter lug nuts for the spare we used the long ones and it damaged the thread in the hub. My car is currently sitting at the dealership awaiting an estimate for the damage. I've been interested in buying some wheels for some time now and I saw this as a good opportunity to purchase some. I got a good deal on some used carlsson rims from a fellow member. My question is can I use the factory lug nuts that are on my C7 wheels for the staggard set of carlsson 2/5 18X8 18X9? or should I go with aftermarket lug nuts to avoid screwing up the thread in the hubs or any other issues that might come about from using factory lug nuts?

i cut mine with a high grit grinding wheel untill the rear wheels were able to turn free. THe front were fine, just the rear needed cutting. I cut about a half inch off, still 4 turns for threading. I haven't noticed any change in ride, and the rims have been on with those for a year now, and over 40k miles with no problem. You are safe to cut them as long as they tighten down to torq spec's.

Don't mean to highjack your thread but this is better than starting a new one. I just put on my Lorinser RS6's today using the stock lug bolts. They also came with spacers although i am not sure of the thickness of them. The fronts are 225/40/18 and the rears are 265/35/18. There is a ticking noise that is coming from the rear wheel area, but only the passenger's side. It gets more rapid as you go faster. I can't see anything at all that could be rubbing. Any ideas? I'm not sure of the exact offset but they were on a CLK55.

I would never cut or grind a lug Bolt. These bolts are specially hardened and finished with a lubricant coating. Mechanical modification might ruin the temper. New bolts are pocket change next to the price of a wheel.
Mercedes writes that spacers are not approved because they interfere with the ability of the wheel to "center" on the hub. If a new wheel will not fit without a spacer, I'd ditch the fashion and go for one that fits safely. The wheel maker should specify which head style, thread, and length of bolt required.
To double check, measure how much thread emerges from the stock wheel where it touches the brake rotor. Make sure the new wheel has a similar dimension, or get new bolts that fit the new wheel.

The person I bought them from said he used the factory lug nuts on the carlssons but I just wanted to be sure if they were saft to use. From the information I see here they are longer and need to be cut in order to be used safely. Anyone know where I can order a set of carlsson lug nuts?

it doesn't matter if it's carlsson lug nuts or not, you just need to make sure it's the correct length or not
you don't want something too long or too short

Ditto that. It's the length that you need to make sure.
Go to the those tires shop and ask them what would the correct length.
I believe the stock one is 12x1.5 40mm
Put your stock bolt into your new rim, and see how much it stick out on the inside. I have Moven and I use 12x1.5 25mm.

After installing the wheels, before you start driving open your windows and try to listen to make sure the bolts are not hitting the e-brake.
Good luck.

That was I was told by the guy who sold me my wheels but the stock bolts were too long that the bolts are tight but the wheels are still about an 1/2 -1" away from the hub. The safest thing to do to avoid wasting time in finding the right bolts is have a wheel shop measure the legnth of bolt you need and order it fron them. The shop where I ordered my bolts got me the same bolts he normally gets for the same wheels but to our surprise it's still long for the rears, the fronts were okay. Sorry I dont know the size of the bolts but they are short.

Teaser...
Well, I got the spacers and shorter bolts that I needed and now I'm just waiting for my GSD3's to come in... But in the mean time here are a few teaser pics...
Geez... They just clear the calipers!!! by about 1.5mm! And yes something will be done with the calipers... I'm just working out the logistics of it... Trying to get it just right.

lookin for some new wheels.
Thinking about buying some privat reserve's: http://www.buywheelstoday.com/products/?id=2823
the site says the offset is 40 for 19's, would i need spacers to get them to fit?

I think for the 03 W203 you may not need a spacer. I'll find out for sure and get you a quick price qoute. You want the silver finish or the anthracite shown below?
