Engine Wire Harness, O2 sensor --- Big money
Need advise badly.
I have a 2003 C230 Compressor. The engine light came on. Took it to Autozone and read the code. It indicated O2 sensor. Took it to the dealer and the dealer wants to replace the O2 sensor as well as the entire engine harness and is asking for $1600. BTW what is this
harness? I am in Tampa FL. Does anyone know what a cheaper, economical way for me to fix this car? Please help.

Leave the harness & see what happens. If sensor change fixes code then leave well alone.

I put in new O2 sensors last night (4 on the C320) and it is not hard at all. $150 at Advance and you really only need a 7/8 wrench.

Engine wiring harnesses are expensive. Best to avoid having to replace it. Maybe if you took it to an indy shop and have them repair/clean the wiring and connections, fix any and all oil leaks, then you might be able to keep the existing wiring. Most common problem is tranny oil leaking and fouling the wiring harness to the TCM. O2 sensors are easy to replace, wiring is not because it is labor intensive.

Any competent DIYer can remove the engine harness in 1 hour. Remove it, soak it in degreaser overnight, let it dry out the next day, replace. Spray all sensors and ECU with contact cleaner.
Buy new cam sensors and isolation wires. This fix will cost ~$200 and a few hours on the weekend.
