AMG Exhaust

dj-po,

I agree with out spending big buck's you can't do alot better than the AMG Exhaust. Headers for a V8 MB are 6000.00 and up if you add down pipes. A full exhaust headers down pipes sport cats and mufflers is more that 9000.00 on a CL 55. It does add around 20 HP to the car but at a hefty price.

The exhaust on the C230 Coupe only adds a couple of HP (cat back) you are right the sound, and looks are the big gains.

What type of exhaust looks good on the C230K? I am thinking of getting the Lorinser (dual). What do you guys think?

You only play with the exhaust system when it needed, if the
back pressure raise more than stock before the cat. or mufflers
then there is a gain in changeing.

My S 500 pulls 500 HP on a stock system.

2005 C230K SS M271 engine upgrade packages

I have been researching several engine upgrade packages for my 05 C230K SS (M271). These are "basic" packages that only include ECU upgrades, air filters, and pulleys (no exhaust/muffler, intercoolers, etc.) Here is what I have come up with so far:

Renntech:

ECU Performance upgrade, Crankshaft Pulley (Package cost $1,695).

Performance gains BHP 20, Lbs-Ft Gain 27

Carlsson

Two pulleys, Air Filter (No ECU upgrade) (Package cost $3,645)

Performance gains BHP 36, Lbs-Ft Gain 60

Vath

ECU upgrade, Pulley upgrade (Package cost Approx. $3,000)

Performance gains BHP 36, Lbs-Ft Gain 40

Kleemann

In testing phase, will be available in early 05.

Evosport

I know there has been much discussion on this board regarding this package. If someone can please follow up my post with the specifics it would be appreciated.

Brabus

They have told me that there are no plans for upgrades to this engine.

So....where am I now, more confused than ever. If anyone is familiar with any of these packages/products please enlighten me. What do you think about these packages? Are they worth the price? I'm sure I am missing many other options, please feel free to add to the thread with others.

IMO I wouldn't go with Carlsson, 36hp for $3645 is a bit expensive

While the price of the Carlsson package is very expensive, I think it is nice they can achieve the gains without a remapped ECU.

Kleeman has now released their M271 product, called KBox.

This package is made up of an electronic recalibration device that enhances power and torque, a crank pulley and a water pump pulley.

HP gain about 20
Torque Gain about 30

No ECU update necessary.

Price $1,600

This sounds like a nice package. Anyone try it yet?

Kleemann has a special on the "other" forum for $1,300 for pulley and kbox (mods the ECU externally for quicker install). Evosport should have one soon, it's being tested but they are asking $1,000 just for the pullies (no details on that kit yet). All I can tell you from the old M111 days is that every tuner had different gains for the same size pulley yet in real life they all produced about the same power except the smaller pulleys like Brabus. I can't imagine that a pulley from Carlsonn, Evosport, Kleemann, Vaeth or Renntech, if they are the same diameter and replaced the same pulleys would produce different results on the same car. The ECU changes would probably have the most variation. Also, I don't understand how you can only change the crank pulley when it's a single plane design that drives everything faster (waterpump, power steering, a/c, alt, s/c). If I was designing a kit I would replace not only the crank pulley but also the waterpump pulley.

Not sure about the exhaust... Flip sent me 131 Megs worth of AVIs. I recoded them. The third vid will be working soon. That's the good one. I didn't have enough storage on comcast so I am recoding the 2nd a little smaller... thanks

Edit- The Kleemann header is not on this car. I've read it will be out soon.

They are both sedans. The M271 Kleemann kit will work with either. I am sorry about the links. I have limited space on comcast, 16 & 17 are up now, 18 was almost done but my wireless router blinked, dropping the download. Arg... trying again. The get all three on the site I had to recode and edit some of 17. The last half was just Flip talking to Mike, though funny, dead weight.

nice videos! how is that camera mounted? it seems as if it's just placed on the dashboard but it would fall off. the car with the kleeman is an auto right? it was shifting too smooth to be 6 speed.

Not sure, you'll need to wait til I hear back from Flip. I think it is the Pulley and K-Box software. Definately no headers.
