Supercharger help!!

Just left myer Star here in Phoenix, took the 05 c230k in because of loud whining noise coming from ac/supercharger area, 1 hour later told probably rear supercharger bearings....vacuum pump leaking oil, and leaking cam sensors....total over $4,000 to replace..... any ideas on where to rebuild SC or used SC? Schummacher wants $1750...?

I think the company is called PSE in Oklahoma rebuilds superchargers or you can look up Eaton website. They are located in Socal and do factory rebuilds as well. There is also some place in Florida as well.

I would have to look through my notes to find the exact names.

Kinda off topic but is the Eaton the best SC for our cars? Would their be any gains using a SC by another company? Just came to mind while reading this..

Thanks Paul any help is appreciated. Also they are suggesting replacing the intercooler from oil contaminating it, what kind of core upgrade can anyone suggest? I have the Renntech pulley kit waiting to be put on and remove the resonator IC piping. What is the factory size IC and piping size? S"<., if I am going to replace all this crap might as well get some.....any gains!!!!

Don't be too quick to run off the stealer and pay a pile of money for work you don't need.
Superchargers can often be found on ebay.

Do a search on Eaton M45 mercedes.

As far as using a different SC, well that would require some doing.

I doubt the IC needs to be replaced. Just clean it out, wash it out in solvent or degreaser.

Awesome info guys, I just called PSE in Edmond Oklahoma, (funny I moved from there a year ago ) they quoted $700 for rebuild and will call me back on charge for porting. The ones offered on Ebay offer no phone numbers, just Email. Also there is a brand new one in Germany for around $600 still in box, is this risky? I will be doing the intercooler res delete, with maybe a 25x8 IC core size? Does our intercooler outlet on the sides or back? I found a perfect sizwe IC for a talon/eclipse with back outlets for $150?

Before you do this, have a reputable independent check it out. They told me my vacuum pump was leaking and that it had to be replaced, when in fact all it ended up being was a leaking hose and cam sensors. I saved a boatload just getting a second opinion. I'm never trusting the dealer again, but maybe I'm just paranoid now...

Cam sensors are a known issue, there's a DIY here on the site.
There doesn't appear to be any MB M45's on Ebay right now.
Be careful, you want the one for your car, not mine...
There's a suffix to 2003 on 1.8 L .
It's like M45XX or something....
I'm pretty sure this is the one you want....

Yeah i went to an independent recomended from other MB owners on various forums........ kind of mad because when i originally got this car i took it in for the hose recall i mentioned the noise to the SA at Schumacher here in Phoenix, was told all Mercs are loud. Yeah the one you linked to is for M271, I am going to do the cam sensor replacement for sure. The mechanic originally said might be AC compressor, than as they were lowering it from the lift another listened to the back of the SC and said for sure bearings?

My independent ordered the campaign kit from Mercedes and replaced all necessary parts, it even included a new intake muffler. Sounds great now and pulls strong! I highly recommend getting a trustworthy source to check out your car!

Just got off the phone with a place in Oregon and one in Missouri, the latter has rebuilt and ported for customers in Europe. We spoke for a while, one question, does the M45 have an electric clutch? Anyway he has ported many M45's so feel good about giving him my SC. Keep you posted.

No clutch. Thats on the SLK's.
I wouldn't go with ported on your car.
People who installed pulley's had issues with fuel.
You might try larger injectors, but only one person did that successfully.
(Drex?)
So, that being said, a ported blower will blow more air, and give you a lean condition, which on the M271 seems to cause the engine to only go so far in the rev range before choking.
Those with M271 please confirm?

Which is why I passed on having it done, even on the M111.

Cant our ECU adjust for the condition caused by more air flow? I know there are tolerances for injectors/ecu to operate. Adding larger injectors just give you the ability for more fuel, does the ECU not need to send a stronger signal for them to do so, its not just having "biiger" injectors alone? Anyone.. (drex? ) respond please before I do the Renntech pulley, ported SC, SC resonator delete, second cat delete, and Remus/Supersprint exhaust.

There's an 05 W203 supercharger for sale in the classifieds, I think from the same car as yours.

https://mbworld.org/forums/engine-pe...rchargers.html

Also, if you need other parts, check out BBA Remanufacturing. Good reputation and can save you tons of $$$$. If they don't have what you need, often you can send it to them and they can remanufacture it for much less.

Good luck!!

Thank you Gramabenz, I pm'ed the member about the one in the classifieds and found a brand new one on Ebay uk in Germany for under $600 brand new. Also regarding porting the SC a few memebers have stated the M271 poor head design causes it to run rich, so more air could be a good thing? Also while porting cant they adjust the air bypass valve to hold more bbost? Or will the ECU nannies not allow this with my Renntech pulley anyway?

The poor head design doesn't cause it to run rich, the cam sensor leak does. The poor head design becomes a problem when the car runs rich, causing carbon to build up and the valves to stick.

The ECU cannot compensate on the M271. There is a dyno done for the Renntech pulley on the M271 and it showed minimal gains at the top end, cause the ECU nannies kick in.

Add more air might give better low end performance (bore the throttle body at the same time you port the SC), yet high end performance is limited without figuring out how to add more fuel.

There is a M271 race car at my hometown dealership with a M271 built from the ground up (PnP head, ...). The dealer got the ECU programmed by someone direct from Germany, then ended up running standalone to get the most out of it.

Larger injectors is a temp fix and will negate gains at the low end.

Okay thanks for the info, I will be replacing cam sensors and found a throttle body on Ebay for 250ish? Will probably buy this and have it ported, my car is a daily driver so i must minimize downtime.

You'd be better off selling the 2005 and finding a low mileage 2002 for like 10 grand if you want to do all this stuff, and not have a lot of problems.
Just a pulley alone on the 2002 put the HP up to about 225-230 HP but the really nice thing is the torque. Gobs of low end torque makes daily driving so much nicer. No constant shifting to stay in the narrow power band of the 1.8L.
I hit 0-60 in about 7 seconds, but I can climb a seriously steep road, like 45 degree hill at 40-45 mpg at 2K rpm. (Though I usually downshift, puts less strain on things)
Porting the SC, exhaust upgrades and little things like the throttle body add a little more power.

The M271 when you add more air, it just choke, like the man said about the
Dyno. I saw that too, it just hits like 5500 rpm and goes flat.
So far the only person who managed to make it work was Drex, and I think he ended up going back. (drex??? You out there buddy?)

Yeah I know the 2.3 is better tuning, but i like dash cluster on 2004.5 and up. Most of this tinkering is happening because my SC is getting replaced so why not? I came from an IS300 5 speed with many many mods, I never leave anything stock. And I am in contact with Drex,

Just heard back from Schumacher Mercedes in Phoenix.....MBUSA agreed to pay for the parts to fix my 2005 with 57k miles.....both cam sensors....vacuum pump..... one of the front pulleys(not the supercharger)and leaking oil around an electrical connection by the tranny? Anyway I have to pay for the labor....... $521 dollars...... pretty good customer service seeing my car is out of warranty. What do you think?
