Rear Sunshade

OK, I've read all the posts about the rear sunshade motor and all. My shade is stuck in the up position.

I'm thinking of tackling the problem and removing the rear deck myself because, and listen very carefully...

The stealership just quoted $1,200.00 to replace the motor.

Second thought - I'll leave it in the up position.

How hard is it to replace the motor? I would start by removing the rear seats and see if you can access the motor that way.

Any progress? My shade has 2 spots in which it get stuck when going down. I have to press it manually, I hear a click, and then it will go down when i press the button again. It has no problem of going up. I am not sure where to start taking the car apart to get to it.

I haven't done anything with the shade yet. It is currently stuck in the up position, and I'm not sure that I'm comfortable tearing everything apart just yet. I hate that I have something not working on my car.

Accordingto WIS, you have to remove the entire rear shelf which involves moving the rear seat cushions and backs, and also C pillar trim, unbolting seatbelts.

According to WIS # AF68.50-P-2002AG,
a
"chafe guard on rear windows roler sun blind becomes loose resulting in noise or causing blind to stick during opening and closing."

Furthermore, it states as a cause, 'At high temperatures caused by solar radiation, the chafe guard may come loose due to insufficient attachment."

As a remedy, it instructs you to remove the chafe guard and glue felt strips in place of it. Part #A 203 983 00 10

I hope my rear sunshade never breaks...

And... if you think about it:
The thing that protects/offers some sort of barrier from heat... actually can break down from heat >_>

Oh the Irony
