You dont even have to solder... You can use little wire attachment things that radio shack sells... They are in pictures. I found them at radio shack. "Quick splice connectors"

a quarter mile at a time
yeah but then with capacitors, there's a chance that if you connect them with the wrong polarity they'll explode. I know what you mean but some people are just not into messing with electrical components.

+1 - I've never understood why - I'm no great shakes with a soldering iron but I recently bought a Spanish Soler & Palau Variable Hygrostat to control a venting fan for my indoor Jacuzzi. The thing was full of dry joints. Returned it & got another - the same. So I thought - damn it, I'll rebuild the thing & it's been working great for a month now. I must say I'm a little scared of some fine pin surface mount components - but what the hell - all you can do is fry them.

There's nothing worse than a bad soldering iron. If it doesn't get hot enough, not weighted right, crappy stand, etc.
If you have a good one, it's pretty easy. Bad one, then it's a hassle.

+1 - I have a Weller soldering station. Adjustable heat, proper holder and wipe pad - makes a big difference
