Bagwell, I'm just repeating from the manual, using the nomenclature they use for all the other lights.

C 5 W/4 cp

It's a "tube" type bulb, apparently.

thx bagwell, but the ones for the license plate should be 12v 5w. I currently installed the 12v 10w bulbs for the license plate and one of the plastic cover has already been melted because of the high heat generated by the higer wattage. That is why I am trying to find 12v 5w bulbs.

trying to locate license plate bulbs for C230K
i hoping this can be answered so i can track them down today and get them ordered, on one of the other threads

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&threadid=4026

show "C 5 W/4 cp" as being the bulb type for the C240 license plate. I am trying to locate bulbs for the C230K license plate. The manual on page 268 for the C230K says "C5W" for the license plate bulbs. I am unable to find this bulb type on the internet, does anyone know what bulb to order to replace this "C5W" bulb?

thanks so much.

I'm not sure if you can be absolutely sure that the bulb you order online is going to fit, because there are 3 different sizes. Most commonly, these bulbs are used inside the car. If you call up a ricer store, ask for "dome lights". Coincidentally, there's similar bulbs inside the car for the interior lighting.

The bulb size used is the medium size, your best bet is to take the stock bulb with you to the ricer store and visually match them. If you get the wrong size, they won't fit properly.

Plus the use of bulb names/numbers is virtually useless, because it varies greatly between the car manufacturers and the bulb suppliers. The only ones that stay consistent are 1156/1157, 9006/9007, and Hx bulb numbers. The rest are just guess & check.

EDIT: Check the other license plate light thread, I posted a similar answer there too.

Short answer: Yes.

Some people have complained about the higher-wattage bulbs melting the license plate light lenses or even blowing fuses, but I've never had problems. I'm using the same bulbs that bagwell attached a picture of, B1 Hybrid M-28.

That's what I did for my brake light bulb, which just went out.

The numbers in the manual don't really mesh well with what's in stores, so we matched the size to the # of contact points. Malfunction's gone, so I don't think that I've killed the electrical system yet.

I've tried using 12v 10w bulbs from Eurolite. They are definately brighter and stronger than the stock plate lights, however they are much hotter and I melted one of my plate lens.

Secondly, because they are 10w, I noticed a malfunction. The car's signal lights don't flash 3x when you lock when using these 10w bulbs.

I guess it drew too much power for the signal lights to work during lock up.

I don't care about changing them anymore and I've gone back to using the stock bulbs. I had to buy a new lens which was expensive.

Another thing, if you are persistent in changing your stock plate bulbs to those xenon lookalike ones, make sure to get quality bulbs that are color dyed, not color coated.

Color dyed means that the glass is actually dyed during manufacture so the color won't burn off when used.

Color coated means the glass is painted with a paint of some sort, and the color will come off when the glass heats up.

Ask to make sure they're color dyed before you buy.

Light Malfunction, Licence Plate Indicator L
Well only 77 miles and I got my first warning message (see title of thread). Strange thing is that when I checked the suspect lights, both the left and right bulbs above the rear plate were working perfectly?

Any ideas?
