New to the Forums, Hiiii!~

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums and I thought I'd introduce myself and at the same time ask a few questions =]
I'm Jimmy, and I just bought a 2006 C280.
I don't know if there's a self-intro thread, but ch'yeah, I guess I'll do it anyways.

I'm 19 and going to UC Davis, California. I live in San Francisco.
Majoring in Biotechnology... hoping to cure cancer one day, or so I tell everyone. (Bet you guys are wondering if this guy's )
I ride fixed to school everyday.... and... that's s'bout all I can think of to say~

I just bought the car two weeks ago and I've already put like... 600miles on it. LOL.
Currently the car is bone stock.... =(
But as time goes on I hope/expect it to grow in many modificated ways =P

But anyways.
As a newb to the forums, I would like to get some clarification on one thing before I proceed to continue looking/contributing/joining in the W203 section <_<

Is my car: 2006 MB C280 a W203?
I don't really get this different naming system with the W and all that... I have used the 'search' function as I've come from a lot of other forums where 'search is your friend.'
Through reading other threads and searching some stuff, I kinda' figured/read that the C280 is 'essentially a C230 with a bigger engine' ???
Is that true <_< ? Because the C230 looks vastly different since a C280 is a luxury model whereas the C230 is a sports model, but this might mean nothing really. Although, even the stance they both have are different.
I just don't want to do research and buy parts based off wrong info =(

What do you guys think of the things I'm thinking about doing now/soon?

-- White Star Flat Emblem, don't know yet. Only considering this since I'm afraid of some idiot stealing that hood star. I've seen some where there's just a hole in the hood =.=
And the fact that these are limited run, look nice (opinionated), and there are only '8' left.... an 'exclusive' item of sorts makes me want it =P
But the fear of losing my hood star as well as gaining an unsightly jagged hole from having the upright star stolen is more of a concern.
(They will fit on my 06' C280 right? Ray, aka DFWdude on the forums selling them, didn't mention the c280 on his list...)

-- Tints + MoleSkin/Felt: 45% front, 20% rear, 20% all ceramic?
(Anyone in Davis / San Francisco that guys would recommend that provides lifetime warranty against scratches/fade/etc? Good to work with, not a jackass, and will be around for a long time?)

-- That tri-star front grille in black?
That looks like this: http://www.55tech.com/images/w203allbk.jpg
I've read somewhere on this forum that the grille will interfere with opening the hood/hit the grille unless you get the extended latch... So any good recommendations on where to get this too?

Some longer term things I have in mind in terms of feasibility:
CAI
Eisenmann Race. Undecided between Oval/Circle tips (Saw it on Mu6enx's car, sounds amazing)
Lower-age
Some crazy wheelset, probably at the same time with the lowering, so... this might take awhile =P
Felt RoofTop (Got the idea from that one dude with the SuperCharged merc?)

That's as far as i've thought it out. But if I'm in the right section, w203, we can all see what happens in the future =]

~Jimmy

C280
Jimmy, Welcome! I'm pretty new here as well. We have similar cars and I have a pretty good idea what your going through. As far as I'm concerned our 2006 C280's are W203. I've done some searching for aftermarket parts and some mfg. don't list a 2006 C280. i.e. H&R parts list will not give you a 2006 C280 but will give you a 94-95 & 96-00 C280 which in fact is a W202. 1 thing i'm looking for is a add on lip for the 06' C280 front bumper.. So far no luck!
Good luck with the search for aftermarket parts. Keep this thread going and I may chime in on parts I find.

hey jimmy,

my lady goes to davis also, lol. but yeah, as for springs and stuff, don't worry about it; all the c class's can swap parts, it's interchangeable. so just get some springs from a c230 v6, and you will be good to go. same things applies for bumpers/mufflers/etc.

blackc280 - Awesome! Having someone that has the same car and also learning at the same time makes it that much easier than doing it alone =P
But since Mu9enx did say parts are interchangeable, why not get the one most people get? I don't think any cf spoiler fits 'perfectly'
Nothing ever does =/
Unless of course you pay for it. Everything is pay to play

And yeah, I think I'm probably going to update this thread as I go along making modifications. Sounds like a good place to get comments, opinions and tracking my progress =D

Mu9enx -- Haha, nice? Lol, don't know how to reply to that comment.

Btw, Sorry about the mistake on your name up there =P
Don't know if you noticed or not.
I wrote down your name as mu6enx rather than mu9enx.
That exhaust system you have.

I really like what you've done with the front of your car too
Clear Headlight Glass + Blacked out headlights?!?, Yellow Fogs, Black Front Grille and a Flat Emblem.
Just made me remember that I was thinking about a lightning system that's aimed towards maximum visibility rather than novelty =]
So I'm thinking about some 4300~6000k lights, more towards the sooner upgrades
That lip though, I'd definitely wait until I get a true feel of how long the car is.
I learned how to drive on an SUV for 3 years, and now driving a compact car, I look like an idiot when I'm parking, hahahaha.
I used to be able to park in under a minute or two max even on up/down hills, but now because of fear of curb rash or frontal scrapage... it takes a whole lot longer
I could do 4 wheel slides on my dad's 4runner. Hahaha, now I don't do **** except go fast on the freeway from SF -> Davis and vice versa =P
Now that this car is mine, my name and everything mine, I can't afford to damage it in any way. Just gonna' make it all prettyful I guess =]

haha, i've drove my car to davis plenty of times, usually around the new dorms and ****. and yeah, i know that you spelled my name wrong, but it's coo!

but yeah, everything you want, you can get. the front bumper/lip would be a little tougher, as you don't have the ///AMG bodykit. you can also get an eisenmann exhaust, but i don't know how it will sound, as i have the c320.

if you want maximum visibility, but not much $ to spare, get a pair of DEPO brand headlights, like me, and retrofit a tsx projector in there. in the end, you'll have a beam output much better than OEM bi-xenons, and for less $.

my first car was a truck also... LOl, i would hop over dividers, parking blocks, everything. now i have to angle my car so i won't scrape over fenders, and park carefully so i don't hit my lip and all that bs.

The lip is just for looks really.
I mean, I can reasonably take the car up to 120 (Lol, I was paranoid that every flash from the back was a cop driving up to davis) and the car is still freaking stable.
I don't plan to go much higher than that... since anything at that speed would destroy. Period. Destroy. Lol. A rock at that speed would probably shatter the windshield. (I don't really know that, but it sounds like what would happen)

So yupp, some low level aesthetic mods that I mentioned earlier.

The only real 'performance' oriented mods would be the suspensions, exhaust, intake, filter?
That's about it. I don't know if rims/brakes count <_<

I hope the exhaust would turn out similar if not deeper than the one on your vid
But then again, I'm only going for the single sided <_<
You're an absolute baller for buying two. Lol.
I mean, right now, if I push it to 3krpms, it absolutely sings from what I can tell without the music and from what my buddy tells me.
I can only tell a little difference from my buddy's 335i, his is obviously deeper, but he also had his resonator delete.
But the eisenmann would be good with a straight pipe / resonator delete off a straight v6 right?
I guess I won't know till I try it

Right now it's a debate between grille, white star emblem, tints vs. eisenmann. The price of three mods equates to around 1 mod. Unless of course I nab a quick deal for cheaps

I really want those tints because I love how it changes the car's aesthetics immediately. The front grille also changes it into a 'younger' car in my opinion. I'm only 19 and a few people have said that the stock grille is nice, but it's a little bit... old for someone of my age. I think you know what I mean.
The emblem... I guess I could deal. I don't usually park near shady areas.

But that exhaust... **Music Off** 1st2nd3rd4th5th6th:z oom:. Hahahaha.

I gotta' go get a quick paying job

*Damn I love these smilies. Haven't used them in awhile. Going crazy with them here.

lmao, you sound like you're having fun.

i don't have an true quad eisenmann. eisenmann only made a dual tipped muffler; i just had a exhaust shop make those two tips into 4, by routing one of hte tips to the other side. oh, and you do know that the eisenmann race is basically the loudest w203 exhaust available right? lol.

if you do get an eisenmann, don't straight pipe it; you'll just end up with a LOT of drone. i deleted my resonator and man, was that mothasucka loud as hell! i got a fix-it for it too, LOL. i got it checked out, and it was 105-106db's, 10 over the limit. i added an aftermarket resonator, and it only dropped it 10, but enough for it to be legal, hahaha.

i say, get some of the minor things done first, unless you can get a deal for the bigger ticket items. i say get the flat hood badge, and tints first. then you can drop your car with some springs/shocks or coils. any stock car will look the **** after a drop!

btw, post some pics up mannng

Pics as soon as I get to wash the car + have something better than an iPhone's crappy camera.
It has been raining almost everyday I drove if not late night mist in davis... so it's kinda' dirty =/
makes it look nasty on black X_X
I can't wait till it stays sunny and blazing hot in davis so that there's no water to get dust stuck on the car. But i'm fairly sure if I head down to SF, the fog will just ruin any wash job. Haha.

I guess I'll build my way up =]
But if a good deal pops up all bets are off, haha.

Thanks for the email, I'll do that as soon as I have some time.
4 more pages to a term paper X_X

Go with what Mu9enx says. Flat out the badge, tint, Drop and rims. That's the route i'm going with. Although one of the users here, local to me sold his H&R springs. I scored a pretty good deal on them. Prob wont' install them till summer tho.. I ordered the Flat Badge from ebay, my buddy does tint and he's hook'n me up. Just waiting when he has free time.
For a temporary mod. Try the vinyl on the grill. There is thread here where it's discussed about covering that chromed out grill in black vinyl. I'm considering covering just the center part of the grill and leaving the outside chrome frame as is.

Welcome to the forum. I'm just getting back around to rejoining the the boards and there seems to be a ton of new blood.

Leverage the knowledge of the people here. They helped transform my 03 C320 from a nice car into a beast (need to update pics). Please let me know if you have any questions.
