Vibrations from exhaust.

Hi guys,

I own a 2006 C350 Sport 7AT and every time I top at a stoplight I feel vibrations from my exhaust. Is this common or might there be something wrong with the car? Also my rear right door (passenger) keeps making noise like something is loose and it makes noise when I go over bumps or cracked roads. Will the dealer take care of this?

Thanks

No it should not. Take it to the dealer under warrantee & ask them to check all mountings and hangers, Cat Converters, Engine mounts & rear gearbox mount.

Yes the dealer must sort out your door. Also get them to check the seatbelt tensioner mechanism for noise - Quite common.

They might look at you as though you are mad regarding the Cat Converters on a relatively new car but speed bumps are the biggest cause of early cat failure. People go over them too fast. The ceramic honeycomb in the Cat is incandescent & breaks. A really bad pothole strike can do the same thing & cause premature failure.

Of course you never do any such thing & you are Federally protected by EPA mandate that Cats must go 80,000 miles.

The vibration is on and off. I'll be starting up the car then I hear it sometimes I dont hear it at all. It comes and goes. This is really weird but how good are dealers? My cosine has a CL600 BiTurbo and he said ever since he took the car for a navigation problem that he started having more problems? Is this true are some Benz service places pretty bad?

Also I have to admit sometimes I do a pedal to the metal. How bad is this for the car? I know i'm applying a lot of pressure especially to the tranny. Can someone tell me the effects of gunning a car?

Thanks guy

It could be a bit of the Cat matrix that has broken off & is moving around. It could also be a suspect engine, exhaust or tranny mounting.

Gunning a car that is fully warmed up will do little harm unless you are really rough. Any hard driving does accelerate wear but with modern oils & control systems it's not that much of a deal.

Gunning cars when cold will accelerate wear substantially as will silly practices like gunning away from the lights after holding the car back with the brakes - not a good practice. Spirited driving is however fine - just hard on brakes & tyres & some suspension bushings.

Gunning away from the lights from a standstill on a car with reasonable torque like yours is hard on gearbox & engine mountings. I strongly believe in sorting out a car then keeping it away from the dealer or any fiddling as much as possible. The most reliable cars are IMHO those that seldom have the hood open apart from scheduled servicing.

If you are going to persistently drive hard then reduce all your oil change intervals by 50%. Engine, Transmission & Differential.

Find a good dealer by word of mouth.
