M111 MAF gasket or O ring? Is there supposed to be one?

My MAF blows air out of the connection at the hose that goes toward the air filter. I tried putting an oring in from the local hardware store, but that doesn't work completely.
I scoured the EPC and don't see an oring or gasket.
The MAF just sits in there, sloppily.

There appears to be a notch to hold an oring, or gasket, but
it's not there, and as I said, no luck on the EPC.
Is is just supposed to leak?

The air isn't getting metered till the MAF, but I would say, yes you want it sealed. Just source a bigger Oring. I wonder if the one for the oil filter mount would work just as well.

I just switched mine out on Monday, and didn't see one. As you said, on the side going to the rear, there's a notch, but that's for the tab from the rubber hose, as least as far as I know.

Mine doesn't leak. I'm no mechanic, though.

There Should be an Oring there. It's available seperately. PM me a VIN and model (eg W203 C200K) and I'll look it up tomorrow

Awesome! PM sent. Yes, that is a pressured hose, leakage = power loss.
Or at least it feels like it. I think thats past the point of the SC, and the
boost is going through there.
It appears that along the way the shop lost it.

Just noticed this - Air must not blow out there. That must be post SC or air would suck in there so you are loosing boost. Lucky it's on the pressure side or your engine would be seeing unfiltered air - not good.

Exactly. Putting the orings from the plumbing dept. of the hardware store help, but don't seal completely. And yeh, you notice the difference in power big time!
You notice the leak big time when you 1st start the car and the air pump is kicked in + there's a thin oil film sprayed out from the connection all over the place where it leaks.

I went to a dealer today and purchased an oring that looked like it might be the right one, but no, it doesn't look right.
Gotta love Smyth. 7 bucks for a 2.35 MSRP oring.
Bandits. Thieves. It's so funny, that most of my parts end up being shipped from Florida or Illinois, or NJ and still end up costing < 1/2 of what these aholes charge. But, I didn't want to wait and was as close as I'll be in a while.

I guess I just need to find a source for orings, where I can buy just one...
an industrial supply place or something. I see some on ebay as well, just need to measure, and determine what material needs to be used, ie oil resistant though I'll be getting a lot less blowby once the oil catch tank is installed.

Someone suggested an oil filter oring, I'll try it a little later.
But that might work. It's looks closer to the right size.

Hopefully Ausmbtech will come through tomorrow with the correct P/N. He is an extremely helpful bloke.

Well, I got the gasket Ausmbtech thought would be the one,
but in fact it's the seal between the rubber hose and the plastic hose.

I ended up wrapping gaffing tape, which is a cloth tape,
around the end of the MAF, and then using the plumping gasket.
It seals nicely now.

While I was at it, I removed the MAF screen, and the target plastic piece,
AND the screen in the throttle body.
Holy crap. I be hauling assss.

I don't even know since when I've had that o ring in. It kind of surprises me that the tape does actually the work. Hopefully that will last. Mine doesn't seem to leak but I can only check at idle. Not sure is won't leak at high rev...
I just checked it and cleaned it while I was doing the cam sensor. Any of these leaks caused me a power loss, so get them sealed.

(BTW it also caused me a misfire on #2... is #1 in front or back of the engine?)

Yes - when the boost is relatively low you don't want to loose any of it. Did you see ichibans solution for the M271 on the Transmission CEL thread. A bit overkill but it works.
