Question Michelin Pilot Sport - question

I just blow up a tire yesterday on my C230 Coupe and I was about to get a new one from Tire Rack. But when I was ready to order I just got confused because I saw the Pilot Sport and the Pilot Sport A/S (All Season). I'm pretty sure that the ones used on the C7 package are the Pilot Sport 225/45 - 17" (on sale for $169) but I need a confirmation from the experts. Is this correct?
Thanks a lot,

Angel

Yes, you're correct. The Pilot Sport is what is on your car, unless for some reason, you had previously changed them. But if these are your original tires, they will be the regular ones, not the A/S.

One of my Pilot Sports got slashed last summer and I went to get a new one at discount tire, and the tire they had was not that same as what came on my car. They kept trying to convince me it was the same but after alot of confusion on their part they figured out that the Mercedes came with a different version of the tire, or at least thats what they told me. So after a week of having an odd tire on my car they were able to locate the correct one. Just make sure it looks exactly the same. The wrong one they gave me actually looked more aggerssive than the Pilots that came on my car. Hope you don't have the same trouble.

The tires they sell in US as Pilot Sports are different than the ones on the car that came from Germany.
MBZ can order one.....god knows how long that would take or how much.

If I remember correctly.... I believed one is called Pilot Sport and the other is called Pilot Sport SX.

Arrrggghhh!!! So that means the only way to get the exact same tire is just getting it from Mercedes ? That's a pain in the a$$!!!
Anyway, thanks for the great advise and I'll call the guys at TireRack to make sure they are going to ship me the exact same tire.
Thanks again,
Angel

No Discont tire had the exact original tire I needed, they just had to ship it from a distribution center so it took a few days, and some phone calls, but they did have the exact tire that was specific to our cars. don't fret. just make sure they understand that it is a special pilot sport. and then you'll probably have to tell them a few more times. I believe there might even be an "M" somewhere around the serial number that designates its different. I might be totally wrong but I thought i remembered something about that.

I had problems with alignment and pulling...
they tried to give me 2 new tires from Germany, (and waited for those) but also said they had to move them around the car to find just the right combo...blah blah bull....
So, I told 'em, that being the case, I wanted 4 new tires, not 2, since what they were saying would preclude rotating the tires.

So they did, 4 new US spec tires after only 2K miles on the German set.

Maybe they still have the 2 they ordered for me?
Although it's been a while.
Try calling Smyth in San Jose and see what they say.

I have read cars with sophisticated stability control systems do not tolerate tires of different diameters very well. The stability systems will interpret the different wheel speeds as tire slip and causes the ESP to activate. This will cause excessive brake wear, as the system will constantly apply the brakes to correct. It will also retard timing and throttle as well. If you current tires are more than half warn, the tire diameter will be off by over .25 inch, which I read can cause problems. Does anyone else have information on this subject?

amiras, you should be getting the correct tires from tire rack, as long as you told them what kind of car you have. The guys at TireRack are very good at what they do and they have many different kinds of the same tire. So they know that there are tires made specially for a manufacturer. But you can still call them if you want to confirm this.

But do not go to the dealer because they will charge you way too much. You would be better off with one mismatched tire than paying the dealer's price. But you should get the right tire from TireRack. If it looks different, return it.

Harris, there is a Pilot SX (not Pilot Sport SX) but it is a very different tire and you would notice immediately that it does not match the Pilot Sports.

Lightbulb

No, if I'm wrong, I'll..uh...well...
I tell ya... I went through this...
Tread pattern on stock tC7 michelin tires is different that whats sold in the US.
The regional rep had them send them from Germany...
but then I got 4 new US spec ones due to issues with alignment and tires as stated.

And TNblkc230wz, yes it's in the manual.
Tires must be the same diameter or the ESP WILL start getting wacked out.
Don't know what page. I read the manual when I bought the car.
Also, if you get towed you gotta push the special tow button on the dash, so the ESP disingages if they tow on 2 wheels, and key must be in ignition, turned to 1st position or something.
Bet ya wondered what that was for....

Thanks guys for all your help. I just spoke with Luke from TireRack and he stated the one that I'm going to receive is the right one. If something goes wrong I'll just return it.
Thanks again,

Angel

I believe the tow button is for the alarm, so it does not go off when the car is lifted. It doesn't have to do with ESP. ESP does nothing if the car is not running. As long as you only have the 2 front wheels on the ground, they will just roll. And I don't think you need the key in either.

Hi

If you have comand I also think that the tyres are important as the comand has to be setup everytime you change tyres. The manual recommends that dealer completes tyre change.
